Part of a busy Liverpool street was closed<\/a> for hours after a man was assaulted during a fight. Shortly before midnight last night (Monday September 8), emergency services were called to the junction of Whitechapel and Sir Thomas Street to reports of a fight, according to a Merseyside Police spokesperson.<\/p>\n It was later confirmed that the incident took place on Stanley Street, which runs adjacent to Mathew Street in Liverpool city centre<\/a>. Detectives are now investigating the assault. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital for overnight assessment of injuries.<\/p>\n He remains in hospital in a stable condition. An 42-year-old man from Lytham St Annes was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).<\/p>\n A 33-year-old woman from Lytham St Annes was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault occasioning ABH. A 30-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of affray. Both have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.<\/p>\n When the ECHO<\/a> arrived at the scene this afternoon, a cordon was in place, running from an entrance to the Liverpool Music Academy (LMA) to the bollards at Whitechapel<\/a>. One woman, who works in a pub nearby, said the cordon was in place at 8am when she got into town.<\/p>\n She and many others working in the area were completely unaware of what had happened. One man working at a nearby bar, who did not wish to be named, told the ECHO<\/a> he had heard there had been an altercation in the street last night, resulting in an assault.<\/p>\n A staff member at the Boutique Fifty Six hotel,<\/a> which is inside the cordon, said: \u201cAll we know is that there was a fight outside the hotel last night.\u201d<\/p>\n A staff member at the neighbouring Kabannas hotel also said there was some sort of fight on Stanley Street last night.<\/p>\n No traffic or pedestrians were allowed to go through the cordon. Only staff and guests at the hotels were allowed to access the buildings. The cordon has now been removed.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: \u201cThree people are now under investigation but we welcome any witnesses who are yet to come forward, as we continue our enquiries.
