Donnelly was given an eight-month prison sentence<\/a>, suspended for 12 months, and issued with a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.\n<\/p>\n Offences ‘very serious’<\/p>\n
\n A TRA report, published last Thursday, said Donnelly was a\u00a0teacher employed to provide teaching services at Benton Park School in Rawdon\u00a0from January 17, 2018, until July 3, 2023, when he was dismissed.\n<\/p>\n
\n The panel found the offences to be “very serious” and believed that his actions were “deliberate”.\n<\/p>\n
\n They said his behaviour “fundamentally breached the standard of conduct expected of a teacher”.\n<\/p>\n
‘I hugely regret what I have done’<\/p>\n
\n In response to the TRA\u2019s investigation, Donnelly, 60,\u00a0said: \u201cI hugely regret what I have done.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I committed the offences at a very difficult time in my life and I am full of remorse at what I did.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I am ensuring that I do all the rehabilitation activities necessary and\u00a0serve my conviction in the most positive way I can.”\n<\/p>\n
Prohibition was ‘both proportionate and appropriate’<\/p>\n
\n The panel “remained concerned about the potential risk of repetition of the behaviours demonstrated by the conviction”.\n<\/p>\n
\n They\u00a0were of the view that prohibition was “both proportionate and appropriate”.\n<\/p>\n
\n The panel\u00a0decided that the “public interest considerations outweighed the interests of Mr
Donnelly”.\n<\/p>\n
\n The report said: “His convictions which involved his having made indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child were the significant factor in forming that opinion.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Accordingly, the panel made a recommendation to the Secretary of State that a
prohibition order should be imposed with immediate effect.”\n<\/p>\n
Donnelly banned ‘indefinitely’<\/p>\n
\n Decision maker David Oatley said: “Donal Donnelly is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children\u2019s home in England.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Furthermore, in view of the seriousness of the allegation found proved against him, I have decided that Mr Donnelly shall not be entitled to apply for restoration of his eligibility to teach.”\n<\/p>\n
