{"id":412065,"date":"2025-09-10T03:01:26","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T03:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412065\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T03:01:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T03:01:26","slug":"full-list-of-exhibitions-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412065\/","title":{"rendered":"Full List of Exhibitions Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Portrait Gallery has been on an absolute roll over the last couple of years, not only opening its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-national-portrait-gallery-has-reopened-and-it-looks-fantastic-062323\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">swanky new \u00a335 million Blavatnik Wing<\/a> back in summer 2023, but curating some truly unmissable temporary exhibitions since.<\/p>\n<p>And now, following on from last year\u2019s fabulous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/art\/francis-bacon-human-presence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Francis Bacon\u00a0show<\/a>, and this year\u2019s brilliant offerings on 80s pop culture bible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/art\/the-face-magazine-culture-shift\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Face Magazine<\/a> and British painter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/art\/jenny-saville-the-anatomy-of-painting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jenny Saville<\/a>, the Trafalgar Square gallery\u00a0has announced yet more bangers for its 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>National Portrait Gallery 2026 exhibition programme<\/p>\n<p>The year kicks off with the already-announced\u00a0<strong>Lucian Freud: Drawing into Painting<\/strong> (Feb 12-May 3),\u00a0the first major UK exhibition focusing on the celebrated British portrait artist\u2019s works on paper. Courtesy the artist, Regen Projects, Los Angeles and Thomas Dane Gallery&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Over the summer months, the Portrait Gallery will stage <strong>Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait\u00a0<\/strong>(Jun 4-Sep 6), a real blockbuster of an exhibition exploring the legacy of one of Hollywood\u2019s most alluring icons through works by some of the twentieth century\u2019s greatest artists and photographers, including Andy Warhol, Cecil Beaton, Marlene Dumas, Milton Greene and Eve Arnold.\u00a0This will feature alongside the 2026 edition of the <strong>Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer Portrait Award<\/strong> exhibition (Jun 25-Oct 7), featuring a selection of paintings shortlisted for the prestigious portraiture prize formerly sponsored by BP.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"cd7e4043-7d06-b47b-5409-17c04a5dec07\" class=\"photo lazy inline\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"lazy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/1757473286_921_image.webp.webp\" alt=\"\u2018Ian McKellen, Love, London\u2019 (2023) \u00a9 Tim Walker\" data-caption=\"\" data-credit=\"Photograph: \u2018Ian McKellen, Love, London\u2019 (2023) \u00a9 Tim Walker\" data-width-class=\"\" data-image-id=\"106317198\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nPhotograph: \u2018Ian McKellen, Love, London\u2019 (2023) \u00a9 Tim Walker&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Autumn 2026 sees the gallery host <strong>Tim Walker\u2019s Fairyland: Love and Legends\u00a0<\/strong>(Oct 8-Jan 2027), the first major\u00a0show for the photographer since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/museums\/tim-walker-wonderful-things-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the V&amp;A\u2019s acclaimed exhibition in 2019<\/a>. Best known for his eye-popping, fantastical fashion photography for titles including British Vogue, i-D, W,\u00a0Vanity Fair and\u00a0Another Man, the British photographer has spent the past five years photographing the nation\u2019s LGBTQ+ trailblazers in preparation for this exhibition, which will be accompanied by a book featuring contributions from Travis Alabanza, Russell T Davies, Shon Faye, Lisa Power and Joelle Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>The year concludes with the Portrait Gallery\u2019s longstanding photography competition, the <strong>Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize<\/strong>\u00a0(Oct 28-January 2027), which returns for its 23rd edition in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>To say we\u2019re excited for such a jam-packed year of brilliant portraiture is an understatement.
