With a new Stephen King<\/strong> movie arriving in theaters this week \u2013 director Francis Lawrence\u2019s The Long Walk <\/strong><\/a>\u2013 King has taken to social media to share his 10 favorites movies of all time.<\/p>\n

Stephen King makes sure to note that the list is in no particular order, and he\u2019s also removed adaptations of his own work from the list. King writes, however, that Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile<\/strong>, and Stand by Me<\/strong> would otherwise make the cut.<\/p>\n

King\u2019s all-time favorite movies mostly aren\u2019t horror movies, you might be surprised to discover, though Steven Spielberg\u2019s JAWS <\/strong>did make the list. Spielberg\u2019s sci-fi classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind<\/strong> is also on King\u2019s list, while The Exorcist director William Friedkin\u2019s other 1970s masterpiece, Sorcerer <\/strong>starring Jaws actor Roy Scheider, made the cut as well.<\/p>\n

Other films on Stephen King\u2019s list of his personal favorite movies include The Godfather Part II, The Getaway, Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre<\/strong>, and Double Indemnity<\/strong>, along with Martin Scorsese\u2019s Mean Streets<\/strong>. The most surprising movie on the list might be the 1993 Bill Murray comedy Groundhog Day<\/strong>, which is also the most recent movie on the list.<\/p>\n
