{"id":412500,"date":"2025-09-10T06:52:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T06:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412500\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T06:52:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T06:52:10","slug":"peregrine-falcon-worlds-fastest-animal-at-weymouth-seafront","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412500\/","title":{"rendered":"Peregrine falcon world&#8217;s fastest animal at Weymouth seafront"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  A peregrine falcon\u00a0has\u00a0been snapped on camera by a member of the Dorset\u00a0Echo Camera Club.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The bird of prey perched itself on St John&#8217;s Church in Greenhill near to Weymouth Esplanade and looked down at the passers-by below.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The\u00a0falcon\u00a0\u2013 which can reach a top speed\u00a0of more than 200 miles per hour when diving \u2013 was spotted by keen photographer Fiona Lawrence.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Peregrine falcons are the fastest member of the animal kingdom based on top speed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This bird in Weymouth looked like it was scoping out a place from which to catch prey.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Peregrine falcon on St John's Church, Weymouth\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Peregrine falcon on St John&#8217;s Church, Weymouth (Image: Fiona Lawrence)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  You can see more pictures like this and share your own at the Dorset Echo Camera Club Facebook group, which you can find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/echocameraclubdorset\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The lightning fast bird is the\u00a0UK&#8217;s biggest falcon\u00a0and wildlife charity the Wildlife Trust says the bird can be easily identified through its white throat and cheeks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It\u00a0also has a very distinct black moustache and mask, with a dark slate-grey above and white underbelly.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The birds typically nest on sea cliffs and rocky areas, though they have also used tall buildings as an alternative home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They often nest in the north and south west of England, but are being increasingly seen throughout the UK.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It is not unusual for peregrines to eat ducks, rabbits or bats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A peregrine falcon\u00a0has\u00a0been snapped on camera by a member of the Dorset\u00a0Echo Camera Club.
