Police have issued an update after four men were arrested on suspicion of plotting acts of terrorism.<\/p>\n

The four suspects were detained by counter terrorism police last week.<\/p>\n

A 49-year-old man was arrested in West Bromwich, a 34-year-old man was arrested in Derby, a 33-year-old man was arrested in Leeds and a 31-year-old man was arrested in Huddersfield.<\/p>\n

The men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.<\/p>\n

An extension was approved by a court on Saturday, September 6, which meant detectives had until Wednesday, September 10, to quiz the suspects.<\/p>\n

Police have since been granted a further extension to continue questioning the men, Counter Terrorism Policing North East (CTPNE) said.<\/p>\n

A warrant of further detention was granted on Tuesday, September 9.<\/p>\n

This means that the men can be held for another week – until Wednesday, September 17.<\/p>\n

Searches at properties in West Bromwich, Derby, Leeds and Huddersfield were carried out and have now come to an end.<\/p>\n

It is understood that the man detained at an address in West Bromwich lives in London.<\/p>\n

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley, head of Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said: “I appreciate the concern these arrests have caused within our communities with visible police presence at a number of properties that have been searched in connection with this investigation.<\/p>\n

“These searches have all now concluded and I would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while officers have been in attendance.<\/p>\n

“Please be reassured that there is not believed to be any immediate risk to the public in connection with our ongoing investigation.”<\/p>\n
