{"id":412911,"date":"2025-09-10T10:37:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T10:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412911\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T10:37:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T10:37:11","slug":"kings-cross-engineering-works-when-is-it-and-how-to-get-around-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/412911\/","title":{"rendered":"King&#8217;s Cross engineering works: When is it and how to get around London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/newsletter_we_final_embed_desktop.png\" alt=\"WEST END FINAL\" width=\"158px\" height=\"158px\" class=\"sc-hLwbiq gqyrnn\"\/><\/p>\n<p>No trains will run in or out of King\u2019s Cross station across one weekend, with widespread service cancellations and diversions affecting multiple operators including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/comment\/british-train-works-joy-lner-nationalise-labour-b1154411.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LNER<\/a>, Great Northern, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/thameslink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thameslink<\/a>, and Grand Central. <\/p>\n<p>The works form part of a long-term infrastructure upgrade designed to improve reliability and capacity on one of the UK\u2019s busiest rail routes\u2014but in the short term, they will cause significant travel disruption across London and the southeast. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you need to know, and how to get around.<\/p>\n<p>Many routes starting from London <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/kings-cross\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">King&#8217;s Cross<\/a> will undergo significant engineering work from Saturday, November 22, 2025, to Sunday, November 23, 2025.<\/p>\n<p> Significant closures between King&#8217;s Cross and Peterborough are among them, and they will have a broad effect on many rail operators including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/transport\/thameslink-most-overcrowded-commuter-trains-st-albans-st-pancras-b1238713.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thameslink<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/lner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LNER<\/a>, Grand Central, Great Northern, Hull Trains and Lumo.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/travellers-lner-east-coast-main-line-network-rail-grand-central-b1139776.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">engineering works<\/a> are part of the \u00a31.2 billion<a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/news\/uk\/network-rail-east-coast-main-line-london-grand-central-lner-b1138418.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> East Coast Digital Programme<\/a> and broader infrastructure improvements aimed at modernising the railway infrastructure, introducing digital signalling and increasing long-term capacity as well as improving safety and resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Which services will be impacted?<\/p>\n<p>No services will run on any Grand Central routes during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Great Northern \/ Thameslink<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All trains between Potters Bar and Royston\/Peterborough, and between Hertford North and Stevenage are suspended throughout both days<\/p>\n<p>A revised train service will run between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Royston and Cambridge \/ Ely \/ Kings Lynn <\/li>\n<li>Moorgate and Hertford North \/ Potters Bar <\/li>\n<li>London Kings Cross and Potters Bar <\/li>\n<li>Finsbury Park and Brighton <\/li>\n<li>Finsbury Park and Horsham (Saturday only) <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Replacement buses will run between:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hitchin and Royston <\/li>\n<li>Bedford and Peterborough via St Neots <\/li>\n<li>Hitchin and Peterborough <\/li>\n<li>Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin <\/li>\n<li>St Albans City and Stevenage via Hatfield <\/li>\n<li>Hertford North and Stevenage <\/li>\n<li>Potters Bar and Hitchin <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No trains to or from London King\u2019s Cross will operate National Rail.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers can take amended services running between Peterborough and the north: Doncaster, Leeds, Harrogate, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh; service also from Doncaster to Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>Replacement buses will run between Bedford and Peterborough, offering connections to and from St Pancras International<\/p>\n<p>Reduced services will run only between Edinburgh and Newcastle\/Peterborough.<\/p>\n<p>Replacement buses will connect Peterborough and London King&#8217;s Cross, providing onward links.<\/p>\n<p>Navigating London that weekend<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re traveling into London and need to reach alternative stations: King\u2019s Cross St Pancras Underground Station remains operational and well-connected.
