Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office<\/a> (FCDO), it stated: “Calls for strikes and demonstrations across France on Wednesday 10 September and Thursday 18 September could make disruption more likely.<\/p>\n“Monitor local news and check with your travel provider regarding potential delays.” The FCDO noted that there can be “frequent industrial action across France”.<\/p>\n
“This can lead to disruption and delays on roads and public transport,” it explained. “If you’re due to travel to or within France, monitor the media, check your operator’s advice and follow the advice of the authorities.<\/p>\n
“Check your operator’s advice before travelling, including where you are taking connecting flights.”<\/p>\n
Additionally, demonstrations, political gatherings, or marches can occur with “little or no warning”, particularly in cities.<\/p>\n
The statement read: “Whilst most demonstrations are peaceful, if you’re near areas where they are taking place, you should remain aware of what is happening around you and follow the advice of the police and local authorities.”<\/p>\n
The FCDO, in its general travel advice for France, cautioned that terrorists are “very likely” to attempt attacks in France.<\/p>\n
The Government website clarified that terrorist attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by tourists and foreign nationals such as:<\/p>\n
\n- Shopping centres<\/li>\n
- Entertainment establishments and nightlife venues<\/li>\n
- Sporting and cultural events<\/li>\n
- Public transport and national and international transport hubs<\/li>\n
- Places of worship<\/li>\n
- Crowded places and public gatherings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
It stated: “Methods of attack have included knife attacks, shootings, bombings and vehicle attacks. Be vigilant in public places and follow the advice of local French authorities.”<\/p>\n
