{"id":413273,"date":"2025-09-10T13:54:18","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T13:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/413273\/"},"modified":"2025-09-10T13:54:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T13:54:18","slug":"local-chikungunya-cases-soar-in-france-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/413273\/","title":{"rendered":"Local chikungunya cases soar in France \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>France has recorded nearly 400 locally-acquired cases of chikungunya this summer, a sharp increase from last year, French health authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santepubliquefrance.fr\/maladies-et-traumatismes\/maladies-a-transmission-vectorielle\/chikungunya\/documents\/bulletin-national\/chikungunya-dengue-zika-et-west-nile-en-france-hexagonale.-bulletin-de-la-surveillance-renforcee-du-10-septembre-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sept. 8, there have been 382 cases of chikungunya from infected mosquitoes biting people in mainland France, including 81 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santepubliquefrance.fr\/maladies-et-traumatismes\/maladies-a-transmission-vectorielle\/chikungunya\/documents\/bulletin-national\/chikungunya-dengue-zika-et-west-nile-en-france-hexagonale.-bulletin-de-la-surveillance-renforcee-du-2-septembre-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past week<\/a> alone, in addition to 966 imported cases. The country also reported 21 cases of locally-acquired dengue and 894 imported cases.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a stark increase in the number of chikungunya cases from mosquitoes in the country compared to last year, when only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santepubliquefrance.fr\/maladies-et-traumatismes\/maladies-a-transmission-vectorielle\/chikungunya\/documents\/bulletin-national\/chikungunya-dengue-et-zika-en-france-hexagonale.-bilan-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one<\/a> such case was reported in France.<\/p>\n<p>Chikungunya can cause flu-like symptoms, such as high fever, headache, nausea, rash, and muscle and joint pain.
