The agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/nasa-to-share-details-of-new-perseverance-mars-rover-finding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously announced<\/a> this event as a teleconference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Watch the news conference on\u00a0NASA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-StZggK4hhA\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a> channel and the agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>. NASA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/general\/nasa-agencywide-media-accreditation-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media accreditation policy<\/a> is available online.<\/p>\n<p>The sample, called \u201cSapphire Canyon,\u201d was collected in July 2024 from a set of rocky outcrops on the edges of Neretva Vallis, a river valley carved by water rushing into Jezero Crater long ago.<\/p>\n<p>Since landing in the Red Planet\u2019s Jezero Crater in February 2021, Perseverance has collected <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/mission\/mars-2020-perseverance\/mars-rock-samples\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30 samples<\/a>. The rover still has six empty sample tubes to fill, and it continues to collect detailed information about geologic targets that it hasn\u2019t sampled by using its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/news\/nasas-perseverance-rover-scours-mars-for-science\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">abrasion tool<\/a>.
