LONDON (AP) \u2014 Britain\u2019s Prince Harry<\/a>\u00a0joined his father, King Charles III, for tea on Wednesday at his Clarence House home in London, the first time they\u2019ve met in well over a year.<\/p>\n

The two have been distant since Harry and his wife, Meghan, left royal life and moved to California in 2020 and then publicly aired grievances about his family.<\/p>\n

Harry was driven through the gates of Charles\u2019 London home following an earlier engagement at the Centre for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London.<\/p>\n

The Duke of Sussex had arrived in the U.K. for Monday\u2019s third anniversary of the\u00a0death of Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>\u00a0and for a series of visits to charities he supports.<\/p>\n

The last time the two met was in February 2024, when the prince flew to London after receiving news his father had been diagnosed with cancer. Harry spent about 45 minutes with Charles before the king flew to his Sandringham country estate to recuperate from his treatment.<\/p>\n

Harry has also had little contact with his elder brother,\u00a0Prince William<\/a>, heir to the throne.<\/p>\n

Harry was\u00a0last in London in April<\/a>, when the Court of Appeal rejected his bid to restore a police protection detail that was canceled after he stopped being a working royal. Charles was on a state visit to Italy at the time, so a meeting then was impossible.<\/p>\n

That case was itself an impediment to improved relations because it involved Harry criticizing the king\u2019s government in the courts. But once it was over, change became possible.<\/p>\n

Immediately after the case ended, Harry said he would \u201clove reconciliation with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no point in continuing to fight anymore,\u201d he told the BBC on the day the court case was resolved. \u201cLife is precious. I don\u2019t know how much longer my father has.\u201d<\/p>\n
