A council has warned that \u2018difficult decisions\u2019 will be made to plug a massive \u00a363m gap in its finances.<\/p>\n
Due to rising costs in areas such as social care, homelessness and from inflation, Stockport<\/a> town hall said it needs to find the huge amount of savings in the years up to 2029\/30.<\/p>\n It follows the last budget in February<\/a> where the council had to find \u00a326m to balance the books.<\/p>\n To see planning applications; traffic and road diversions and layout changes; and more, visit the Public Notices Portal HERE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n A new report has lifted the lid on the \u2018significant\u2019 financial difficulties putting pressure on the council, its \u2018budget gap of \u00a363.222m\u2019, and how the money could be found.<\/p>\n The report stated: \u2018Achieving a resilient budget whilst delivering our longer-term ambitions is extremely challenging.<\/p>\n \u2018We can only achieve this by making challenging and difficult decisions, robust prioritisation of our resource, and ambitious changes in the way we work to deliver services.\u2019<\/p>\n It continued: \u2018We recognise this will present challenging decisions about the services the council delivers and how it delivers them to ensure continuing financial robustness and resilience.\u2019<\/p>\n The council has proposed a mix of options to cut costs, including \u2018efficiency\u2019 savings, change proposals, dipping into its reserves, and budget adjustments.<\/p>\n Council leader Mark Roberts will discuss the issues in a meeting with his cabinet team next week.<\/p>\n Deputy leader Jilly Julian, who is also the cabinet member for finance, refused to speculate on the specifics of how the money will be saved at this stage, but confirmed tough decisions will have to be made by the administration.<\/p>\n With the council budget having to stretch thinner every year, residents are also being hit in the pocket with higher charges for services.<\/p>\n Join our Stockport WhatsApp group HERE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n In the last budget, this saw council tax go up by 4.99 per cent, a new \u00a359 per year charge introduced for those who want garden waste collections in green bins, and blue bin paper collections changed to monthly from fortnightly.<\/p>\n![\"Deputy](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/0_JS303411139.jpg\")
