{"id":414766,"date":"2025-09-11T03:13:21","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T03:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/414766\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T03:13:21","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T03:13:21","slug":"birmingham-bin-strike-reaches-six-month-anniversary-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/414766\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham bin strike reaches six-month anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of Unite walked out on March 11, leading to rubbish piling up on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>A rally in support of the strikers will be held in the city on September 20.<\/p>\n<p>Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said the workers were \u201cresolute\u201d in their determination to continue taking industrial action.<\/p>\n<p>She told the PA news agency that the dispute was affecting Unite\u2019s relationship with the Labour Party and the Government.<\/p>\n<p>Unite is facing legal action over the dispute and Ms Graham said if the union is fined, the money will be paid out of its Labour affiliation fund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur members are resolute in their determination to win this dispute and are disgusted at the behaviour of the Labour council and the Labour Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unite says hundreds of its members face pay cuts of up to \u00a38,000 a year, adding that the council has spent millions of pounds hiring agency workers to collect rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>The union has warned the strike could continue into next spring.<\/p>\n<p>The council insists it has to make changes to its refuse collection service to make it more efficient.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Members of Unite walked out on March 11, leading to rubbish piling up on the streets.
