At CIS today, Prince Harry was joined by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, chief of the WHO. \u201cI\u2019m really pleased about what he\u2019s doing, especially for the children of Gaza. It\u2019s not the money, it\u2019s also the passion and commitment I think I see. And we have met a number of times and his commitment is very, very clear, and I really appreciate that.\u201d Ghebreyesus added, \u201cI hope his contribution will also bring or motivate others to contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Prince\u2019s involvement spotlighting the injured children of Gaza, Ghebreyesus said, is \u201cvery important.\u201d He continued, \u201cHe\u2019s a known figure and his influence is big. So he can help in influencing and others could follow suit. But at the same time, to address the problem we see in Gaza, we need everybody\u2019s participation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Duke also participated in a roundtable discussion with representatives from the WHO and Save the Children to discuss the issues facing children in Gaza. \u201cEvery time I return here, I\u2019m struck by the commitment, innovation, and compassion that drives your work,\u201d Harry said. \u201cFrom the labs I opened over a decade ago, to today\u2019s focus on prosthetics for children, the progress and dedication are extraordinary. The voices we heard today remind us that behind every dataset is a child \u2014 a child in pain, in need of care, and deserving of a future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prince Harry\u2019s comments on Gaza are the most explicit on the ongoing conflict in Israel-Palestine from a member of the British royal family this year. Last year, Prince William visited the British Red Cross headquarters, and said<\/a>, \u201cI, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible. There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza. It\u2019s critical that aid gets in and the hostages are released. Sometimes it is only when faced with the sheer scale of human suffering that the importance of permanent peace is brought home.\u201d<\/p>\n Following the October 7 attacks, Prince William wrote a personal letter to the United Kingdom’s Chief Rabbi<\/a>, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, wherein he reflected on his 2018 trip to Israel<\/a>, and Buckingham Palace has previously expressed the King\u2019s deep concern<\/a> over the situation in the Middle East.
