A stalker who kept trying to approach a woman in Bristol over the course of several months has walked free from court following his conviction.<\/p>\n
Kola Adetu, 45 and from Overnhill Road, Downend<\/a>, Bristol, was found guilty of stalking without causing fear, alarm or distress by magistrates at court in Bristol.<\/p>\n Adetu persistently approached his victim with propositions in the street<\/a> and at her home in Staple Hill over the course of several months from May 2024.<\/p>\n Kola Adetu, 45, was sentenced at Bristol Magistrates\u2019 Court on Thursday 4 September.<\/p>\n On September 4, he was sentenced to a two-year restraining order and must complete a 12-month community order of 100 hours of unpaid work and a 20-day rehabilitation activity.<\/p>\n He must also pay a victim surcharge of \u00a3114.<\/p>\n PCs Joshua Millward and Neal Scarborough, of the Staple Hill neighbourhood policing team, successfully led a complex investigation resulting in the prosecution of Adetu.<\/p>\n PC Millward said: \u201cStalking and harassment are serious crimes which can have a devastating effect on the lives of victims and their friends and family.<\/p>\n “This case reflects a clear pattern of behaviour that posed a serious risk to the victim\u2019s wellbeing.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile anyone can be a victim, stalking and harassment disproportionately impact women and girls.<\/p>\n “Violence against women and girls (VAWG) offences are a priority for our force, and we remain committed to supporting victims and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.<\/p>\n \u201cThe courage shown by the victim in coming forward played a vital role in enabling the police to take action and highlights the importance of reporting such offences.\u201d<\/p>\n The force is encouraging anyone who thinks they are being stalked to report it to police straightaway.<\/p>\n If you are in immediate danger call 999, otherwise you can report online<\/a>, at a police station or by calling 101.
