{"id":415241,"date":"2025-09-11T07:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T07:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415241\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T07:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T07:40:10","slug":"liverpool-acts-to-tackle-rising-ketamine-harm-among-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415241\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool Acts to Tackle Rising Ketamine Harm Among Young People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Liverpool\u2019s Health and Wellbeing Board has met to respond to the city\u2019s growing concern over ketamine use and harm, particularly among teenagers and young adults.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At a meeting on Tuesday 9 October, the Board received an update on the coordinated local response led by the Liverpool Combatting Drugs Partnership (CDP), chaired by Liverpool Director of Public Health, Professor Matthew Ashton.<\/p>\n<p>The Liverpool CDP has undertaken significant local engagement and is developing a comprehensive Reducing Ketamine Harm Action Plan, focused on prevention, harm reduction, early identification and support, and disrupting supply. This work has strong political support with Liverpool City Council p<a href=\"https:\/\/liverpoolexpress.co.uk\/blog-what-im-seeing-terrifies-me-councillors-powerful-plea-spurs-action-on-ketamine-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">assing a motion earlier this year calling for the Government to take further action<\/a>, led by Cllr Lynnie Hinnigan and Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Harry Doyle.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Harry Sumnall, a national expert in substance misuse research from LJMU, provided the board with an overview of the current position in the city outlining that Ketamine, a class B drug, has seen a sharp rise in use nationally and across Merseyside.
