{"id":415426,"date":"2025-09-11T09:21:27","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415426\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T09:21:27","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:21:27","slug":"salt-is-a-hair-salon-turned-immersive-audio-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415426\/","title":{"rendered":"Salt is a hair salon-turned-immersive audio experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"55a26cb7-732f-46ff-94b3-22080c224462\">Audio experiences are all the rage right now, with <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/travel\/bars\/listening-bars-in-london\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/travel\/bars\/listening-bars-in-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listening bars<\/a>, for example, having a real moment. <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.unknown.works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unknown Works<\/a> has brought this principle to a surprising new setting: a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/tag\/london\" data-auto-tag-linker=\"true\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\/tag\/london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London<\/a> hair salon.<\/p>\n<p>The local architecture studio was behind the design of the second outpost of hairdresser <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.saltsalonlondon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salt<\/a>, housed within a former Victorian storehouse in Borough. A pair of huge galvanised steel loudspeakers, crafted using roboforming \u2013 a low-energy, digitally controlled metal-forming technique \u2013 were developed in collaboration with audio start-up Friendly Pressure. Sound is delivered through suspended Friendly Pressure Pickney loudspeakers, while silicone acoustic screens create audio separation between work and staff areas.<\/p>\n<p>On the top floor \u2013 the \u2018colour floor\u2019 \u2013 a striking, half-tonne mirror workstation is suspended from the original timber rafters. Made from ultra-bright stainless steel, it also functions as a light diffuser. Even the layout has been tuned to make the space a resonant body \u2013 essentially transforming the building itself into an instrument.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"d882a979-6a78-419d-925d-0a5d3eb14edc-1\">\u2018This storehouse has been boldly reimagined as a space where sound operates as both material and medium,\u2019 says Ben Hayes, director of Unknown Works. \u2018Every element, from the bespoke loudspeakers to the acoustic furniture, has been precisely tuned to create an entirely new salon experience.
