{"id":415454,"date":"2025-09-11T09:36:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415454\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T09:36:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T09:36:19","slug":"675-arrested-in-france-during-block-everything-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/415454\/","title":{"rendered":"675 arrested in France during \u2018Block Everything\u2019 protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISTANBUL<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>France arrested 675 people nationwide during the Sept. 10 \u201cBlock Everything\u201d protests, with 280 detained in the Paris region alone, the French news broadcaster BFM TV reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Interior Ministry, of these arrests, 549 led to police custody following overnight incidents between Wednesday and Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez reported that fresh arrests were made after clashes in the capital, particularly at Place des Fetes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning we have 280 arrests, including a large number of people in police custody,\u201d he told CNews-Europe 1, adding that 164 remained in custody as of Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Nunez described the protest movement as \u201ca failure,\u201d noting that no major blockades materialized despite \u201cnumerous, numerous attempts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He cited around 10 failed attempts to block the Paris ring road, an unsuccessful effort to storm Gare du Nord railway station, and sporadic disruptions at high schools and bus depots.<\/p>\n<p>Senate President Gerard Larcher also labeled the mobilization \u201ca failure\u201d in remarks to BFMTV-RMC.<\/p>\n<p>Some smaller protests continued Thursday, including attempted blockades in Nantes and at Sciences Po university in Paris, where police intervened to restore access.<\/p>\n<p>Nunez vowed that authorities would maintain \u201cthe same determination, the same vigilance, the same doctrine\u201d in preventing blockades in the days and weeks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Unions have already called for a new day of nationwide protests on Sept. 18, with a march planned in Paris. The final route has yet to be confirmed, as police have not approved the proposed endpoint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Controversial national budget plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The grassroots protest that started on social media urged citizens to &#8220;Block Everything&#8221; on Sept. 10 with the aim of bringing the country to a halt in opposition to former Prime Minister Francois Bayrou\u2019s national budget plan.<\/p>\n<p>Gaining momentum with the support of the far-left France Unbowed (LFI) party, the movement originated with a small online group &#8220;Les Essentiels,&#8221; saying: &#8220;On Sept. 10, we stop everything, not to escape, to say no.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, French trade union organizations also called for a day of mobilization across the country on Sept. 18 to protest Bayrou&#8217;s budget proposals.<\/p>\n<p>France is facing mounting political tensions as Bayrou lost a confidence vote in the National Assembly on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Bayrou, who unveiled a 2026 budget framework in July, was seeking support for a plan to save nearly \u20ac44 billion ($51 billion) as part of efforts to reduce France\u2019s soaring public debt, now at 113% of its GDP.<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu as the country\u2019s new prime minister on Tuesday.
