You have to say Scottish football hasn\u2019t been shown in a great light recently.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Celtic have had off-field issues<\/a>, crashed out of the Champions League, and then produced a dire Glasgow derby display before the start of the September international break<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Rangers are still useless; they somehow produced a worse Champions League qualifying performance than Brendan Rodgers\u2019 side, sitting seventh in the league, and are yet to win a game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least Celtic<\/a> can smile because they are the champions of Scotland<\/a>, and also sitting top of the table, but Alan Shearer<\/a> and Gary Lineker<\/a> aren\u2019t impressed by what they have seen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Given that it\u2019s the international break, the panel on the Rest is Football were discussing the recent matches on the international circuit, including Scotland\u2019s win over Belarus and their point against Denmark in their World Cup qualifiers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when Shearer turned the topic to Celtic\u2019s recent trip to Ibrox<\/a>, including how he was in Scotland when that match took place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The legendary striker didn\u2019t mince his words and stated that the game was \u2018dreadful\u2019, before Lineker agreed and added \u2018thankfully, their national team is performing slightly better.\u2019<\/p>\n

Micah Richards:<\/strong> \u201cI played with the Scots. I love the Scots. I watched the game, though. I didn\u2019t watch when they won (against Belarus). I watched the 0-0 vs Denmark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shearer:<\/strong> \u201cThat was a hard watch.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Richards:<\/strong> \u201cI actually really enjoyed the game. It was weird because Scotland just couldn\u2019t get out, no matter what \u2013 but actually, Scotland defended really well when they needed to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gary Lineker then asked, \u2018when was the last time Scotland reached a World Cup?\u2019 Before he shared that it was in 1998.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shearer:<\/strong> \u201cI was in Scotland last week. I didn\u2019t go to the game, but I watched it with a load of Scotsmen, watching Rangers v Celtic, and that was dreadful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lineker: <\/strong>\u201cOh, I watched that game. I watched it all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shearer:<\/strong> \u201cOh, God. How bad was that?!\u201d<\/p>\n

Lineker:<\/strong> \u201cIt was poor. I mean, Rangers were okay in the first half, but in the second half, there was nothing. No efforts at goal or anything. There wasn\u2019t much quality on display there. Thankfully, their national team is performing slightly better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Worst Glasgow derby in living memory? <\/p>\n

Celtic and Rangers fans don\u2019t agree on much, but the feeling after the goalless draw was the fact that it was one of the worst derby games in recent memory. <\/p>\n

Even pundits, from both sides and those on the outside, felt that way, with both teams only mustering nine shots between them and two on target. <\/p>\n

Those who hate the xG stats won\u2019t care one jot about the following stat, but both teams generated 0.32 xG in that game, the lowest recorded in a Premiership match since records began. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"You have to say Scottish football hasn\u2019t been shown in a great light recently.
