visit Ireland, the Taoiseach has said, as Donald Trump\u2019s Co Clare resort was confirmed as the venue for next year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/irish-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/irish-open\/\">Irish Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump International Golf Links Ireland in Doonbeg, Co Clare, was confirmed as the destination for the tournament under DP World Tour\u2019s 2026 schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The event will be held between September 10-13, according to the schedule.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Last weekend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/first-minister-congratulates-rory-mcilroy-on-second-irish-open-win-V6RP2I4C6FA4ZG6E5NTR7NJNPA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/first-minister-congratulates-rory-mcilroy-on-second-irish-open-win-V6RP2I4C6FA4ZG6E5NTR7NJNPA\/\">Rory McIlroy claimed victory<\/a> at the Amgen Irish Open after what Taoiseach Micheal Martin described as a \u201cfantastic finish\u201d after \u201ca few heart attacks on the way\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" McIlroy on second Irish Open win<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mr Martin highlighted the importance of sporting events like the Open and the upcoming NFL game at Croke Park for Irish tourism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said \u201cthere was no question that President Trump will be welcome to Ireland\u201d given the economic, cultural and familial links between Ireland and the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He added: \u201cThese are very significant events and the relationship with the United States underpins thousands and thousands of jobs in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Minister for Tourism Peter Burke\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/W5OTS3ORG5JVHA4FFWA7WWZOG4.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"1220\"\/>Minister for Tourism Peter Burke (Brian Lawless\/PA) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Peter Burke said Mr Trump would be a \u201cwelcome visitor in our country\u201d as he emphasised the importance of increasing ties with the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">However, Tanaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Harris stopped short of welcoming the visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Pressed on whether he would welcome the Irish Open being held in Doonbeg and a visit by the US president, Mr Harris said: \u201cWhere the Irish Open is (held) is not a matter for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere are things that are matters for me, but this is a matter for the sponsor to the Irish Open and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Mr Harris said he was \u201csure many people in Clare would very
