{"id":416599,"date":"2025-09-11T19:50:12","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T19:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/416599\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T19:50:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T19:50:12","slug":"sheriff-warns-drug-driver-prison-likely-if-caught-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/416599\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriff warns drug driver prison likely if caught again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Police officers were on mobile patrol at Wallyford Industrial Estate when they observed a vehicle being driven by Jonathan Diggory at about 1pm on May 28.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that the officers had \u201ccause to stop the vehicle\u201d on another matter and, while speaking to the 33-year-old driver, \u201cthe smell of cannabis was detected\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Diggory, of Northfield, Tranent, agreed to provide the officers with a roadside saliva drug test that was said to have given a positive reading for cannabis.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was arrested and charged with the offence and, after being taken to a local police station, he gave a further positive reading when a blood test was taken.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The court was told\u00a0the blood test had found that the motorist had 16mg of the compound Delta-9-tetrahydrocannibinol per litre of blood, eight times the legal limit of\u00a02mg.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Diggory appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Lawyer Mary Moultrie, representing Diggory, said that her client had been diagnosed with PTSD and was using the Class B drug to medicate himself.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Moultrie said that Diggory\u2019s vehicle had been seized by police at the time of the offence and that he had also been caught driving while over the limit for the drug last year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sheriff John Cook told Diggory that\u00a0if he offended in a similar way again then \u201cprison will be the likely outcome\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He banned him from driving for three years and fined him \u00a3420.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police officers were on mobile patrol at Wallyford Industrial Estate when they observed a vehicle being driven by&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":45781,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8816],"tags":[748,1102,4884,712,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-416599","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-edinburgh","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-edinburgh","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-scotland","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115187405806370059","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/416599","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=416599"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/416599\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/45781"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=416599"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=416599"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=416599"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
