Liverpool City Council has issued the ECHO<\/a> with an update regarding the possibility of fireworks for this year’s Bonfire Night<\/a> celebrations. Every year, dozens of independent displays take place across the region to mark the gunpowder plot of 1605, remembered on November 5.<\/p>\n Firework displays are held on a range of sites including Southport Pleasureland and the Totally Wicked Stadium. However, if you prefer a low-key event, schools and sports teams hold events of their own.<\/p>\n Liverpool City Council said back in 2022 they had decided a longer term activity aimed at families would be more cost effective than one night of colourful display. In its place is the River of Light events, stretched over the city centre.<\/p>\n River of Light<\/a> was first introduced in 2016 as a fireworks display but it has developed into an art trail in the years since. The last River of Light event to include fireworks was in 2019.<\/p>\n Those hoping to see a free firework display in Liverpool will have to travel to one of the independent events as the city council will not be providing any such events this time round.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council told the ECHO <\/a>there are no plans to hold anything fireworks-related around the Bonfire Night period.<\/p>\n However, the annual River of Light festival will once again be in full swing with 10 fantastic installations set top light up key parts of the city centre and waterfront.<\/p>\n The event will run over 10 nights, from Friday, October 24 to Sunday, November 2, and focus on the theme of ‘Optics – Science and Light’.<\/p>\n Each of the artworks aims to capture the imagination of visitors in new ways as they explore the three kilometre trail along the waterfront, including the Royal Albert Dock<\/a>, as well as around the Pier Head, Exchange Flags and Liverpool ONE.<\/a> You can take a sneak peek at this year’s River of Light here.<\/a><\/p>\n The British Musical Fireworks Championship<\/a> is making a grand return to Victoria Park<\/a> in Southport<\/a> this month. Spectators are invited to watch the stunning display of colours, patterns and effects as fireworks, choreographed to a soundtrack, light up the night sky.<\/p>\n More than 10 tonnes of fireworks and two tonnes of explosive material will be used by pyrotechnic experts showcasing their creativity throughout the competition.
