{"id":416785,"date":"2025-09-11T21:29:16","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T21:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/416785\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T21:29:16","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T21:29:16","slug":"glasgow-city-council-approve-funding-for-residents-impacted-by-tenement-collapse-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/416785\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow City Council approve funding for residents impacted by tenement collapse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Glasgow residents who were made homeless in July when a neighbouring burnt out tenement building collapsed are set to receive financial support<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Glasgow City Council passed a motion on Thursday to financially support residents who were forced out of their homes when the building on the corner of Kenmure Street and Albert Drive collapsed in the middle of the night almost nine weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p>The agreed funding could work out at around \u00a32,000 per family.<\/p>\n<p>A motion by Glasgow City Council states: \u201cCouncil notes the urgent need for clear and immediate support for residents displaced to collapsing buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncil believes that residents who find themselves in this position should be well supported and notes that there is precedent for providing direct financial support following major fires, such as Sauchiehall Street.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The B-listed tenement building was gutted by a fire in the early days of the Covid lockdown, and nearby residents had long complained that it was dangerous and should have been demolished.<\/p>\n<p>After the building collapsed in July, a number of residents living on either side of the building were evacuated. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since then, they have not been allowed back into their homes to access their belongings, medicines and other vital supplies.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.stv.tv\/west-central\/kenmure-street-residents-face-months-in-limbo-after-tenement-collapse-in-glasgows-pollokshields\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"373\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/92f3a5832938d784c2be9916fd1ab820-1752769542-373x216.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  \/> <\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.stv.tv\/wp-content\/themes\/stvnews\/static\/images\/icon-play-overlay.svg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Play icon\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Asifa, her husband and their three children are one of the families who were evacuated.<\/p>\n<p>The council has placed the family in homeless accommodation, but Asifa has told STV News that her temporary home is riddled with mice and is unsuitable for her family.<\/p>\n<p>She said the mice leave mouse droppings everywhere and \u201cchew things all night in the room\u201d. The bath is also not accessible for Asifa\u2019s husband, who has care needs.<\/p>\n<p>Local councillor Jon Molyneux said residents like Asifa and her family had \u201ctheir lives turned upside down overnight\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Green councillor called on the council to support vulnerable citizens with money from the Lord Provost\u2019s fund.<\/p>\n<p>The cash will be ringfenced to help those who are unable to return home for \u201can extended period due to action taken by the council under emergency powers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Molyneux previously said: \u201cTwo months on, insurance companies are no closer to agreeing liability and that too is causing huge financial stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy stepping up and supporting people\u2019s immediate needs, we can ensure Glasgow is a humanitarian council.
