of the Northern Ireland troubles, relations with the EU and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel-hamas-conflict\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/israel-hamas-conflict\"> Gaza <\/a>are set to discussed during a meeting between Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin and UK prime minister Sir Keir Starmer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The Taoiseach is to travel to the UK on Friday for the meeting at Mr Starmer\u2019s t country residence Chequers, where Ireland and the UK\u2019s bilateral relationship will also be discussed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall b-it-article-body__text--left\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/2025\/07\/16\/starmer-and-martin-to-hold-talks-following-labour-revolt-over-plan-to-abort-troubles-legacy-act\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/crime-law\/2025\/07\/16\/starmer-and-martin-to-hold-talks-following-labour-revolt-over-plan-to-abort-troubles-legacy-act\/\">leaders spoke in a telephone call in July<\/a> in what was termed a \u201cconstructive discussion\u201d on dealing with the legacy of the 30-year conflict in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">They met in March in Liverpool in a new series of annual UK-Ireland summits, hailed as the \u201cnext chapter\u201d in their relationship after having \u201cturned a page on the turbulent years\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Speaking ahead of the meeting on Friday, Mr Martin said they will discuss progress made on their co-operation programme since March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister Starmer today and to discussing a range of matters, including the progress to date on the delivery of the UK-Ireland 2030 cooperation programme, which we agreed at our summit in March in Liverpool,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cWe will also discuss legacy issues, recognising its importance to people in Northern Ireland and across these islands, and to broader British-Irish relations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cOur discussions will also cover the welcome progress in strengthening EU-UK relations as well as pressing international issues, in particular the intolerable situation in Gaza, and continued support for Ukraine in its defence against ongoing Russian
