Liverpool Empire is set to welcome a huge stage show as it heads out on its first ever world tour. Moulin Rouge! The Musical will come to the Liverpool Empire with performances across a five week period in 2026. The glamorous stage show<\/a> is based on Baz Luhrmann\u2019s award-winning film MOULIN ROUGE! which premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The show, which is set in Paris in 1899, follows the love story of Christian and Satine. Christian is a penniless American writer, whereas Satine is the dazzling star of the Moulin Rouge nightclub<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When their lives collide at the Moulin Rouge, they fall in love, only to be thwarted by the nightclub\u2019s host and impresario, Harold Zidler, and The Duke of Monroth, the wealthy and entitled patron of the club who thinks he can buy anything he wants, including Satine.<\/p>\n

Together with his Bohemian friends \u2013 Christian stages a musical spectacular in an attempt to save the Moulin Rouge and win the heart of Satine.<\/p>\n

As in the film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates over 160 years of music \u2013 from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. The stage musical features over 70 iconic songs, many from the movie as well as recent hits released since the movie premiered over 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

Carmen Pavlovic for Global Creatures, producer of the show said: \u201cIt is thrilling that Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be lighting up the stage at the Liverpool Empire next year as part of its world tour.<\/p>\n

The show will run from Thursday, July 2 to Saturday, August 6 2026.<\/p>\n
