{"id":418967,"date":"2025-09-12T17:17:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/418967\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T17:17:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T17:17:10","slug":"driver-sentenced-for-hagley-causeway-crash-that-killed-oldbury-teacher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/418967\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver sentenced for Hagley Causeway crash that killed Oldbury teacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Anayat Ur-Rehman pleaded guilty to causing the death of mum-of-two, Abigail Hudson, by dangerous driving on the A456 Hagley Causeway in October 2024.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 26-year-old, of Holcombe Road in Birmingham, also admitted causing serious injury by driving dangerously to Abigail&#8217;s youngest daughter, Ava Doddridge, who is now 11.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Appearing today at Worcester Crown Court (September 12), His Honour, Judge Cartwright sentenced Ur-Rehman to eight years and eight months in prison.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The court heard that at the time of the crash, Abigail was driving her two daughters and her husband, Ryan Hudson, to an open day at King Edward VI College in Stourbridge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ur-Rehman and three passengers in his car had been travelling from Kidderminster to Birmingham.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  By attempting to perform a manoeuvre that Judge Cartwright called \u201chighly dangerous\u201d, Ur-Rehman caused a five-car collision which saw one vehicle end up airborne, flip over the grass central reservation of the dual carriageway and collide with Abigail\u2019s vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In an emotional victim impact statement he read out loud in court, Mr Hudson said the family\u2019s \u201centire world shattered\u201d after the \u201cavoidable\u201d crash.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cSince that day, our future, the one we had built together and looked forward to, has been stolen from us.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cI find myself reliving the incident over and over again, unable to escape the trauma of that night.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He continued: \u201cThe hardest part of all is knowing everything Abbi will miss.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cShe won\u2019t see Ava or Isobel grow up. She won\u2019t be there for their proms, their graduations, or to see them fall in love.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cShe won\u2019t be there on their wedding days or to hold her grandchildren.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cShe won\u2019t be there to celebrate another anniversary with me or grow old with me as we had always planned.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cEvery single one of those moments that should have been filled with joy will instead be marked with sadness because Abbi won\u2019t be there.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>Read more<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stourbridgenews.co.uk\/news\/25437108.anayat-ur-rehman-teachers-friends-await-sentencing-killer-driver\/?ref=ed_direct?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher&#8217;s friends await sentencing of killer driver<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The court heard how Ava suffered \u201ccatastrophic injuries\u201d in the crash, including a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She faces more operations in the future, a lifetime of taking medication, and \u201cpermanent\u201d facial injuries that her dad said will \u201cforever serve as a daily reminder of what happened\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Abigail\u2019s eldest daughter, Isobel Doddridge, Ava\u2019s sister, wrote a personal impact statement that was read out in court, in which she said her mum was her \u201cbest friend\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She wrote: \u201cOctober 19th of last year was meant to be the day when I got to look around my possible future college.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt was supposed to be a new and exciting step for me to take with my family by my side.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cBut it wasn\u2019t. And I was completely wrong.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cAll because of some irresponsible person who clearly does not know how to drive safely.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I may have escaped the crash with minor physical injuries, but that didn\u2019t mean I was okay at all.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 16-year-old also said: \u201cI was sitting in the backseat with my sister.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWitnessing her fighting for her life and the sound of her struggling to breathe will never escape my mind.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Statements were also read out from close friends of Abigail, Kelly and Ben Parish, who were travelling in convoy and witnessed the horror ordeal, as well as Liane Ralley.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Ralley said: \u201cAbbi was an amazing person, I love her, my children love her, we miss her, and we are angry that she lost her life due to the arrogant, selfish, stupidity of someone driving with no regard for other road users, speed limits or the law.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Abigail, who was a popular teacher at Perryfields Primary School in Oldbury, was declared dead at the scene of the crash.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Defending Timothy Raggatt KC said that Ur-Rehman fully accepted responsibility for his actions and \u201cwould do anything in his power to put it right\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He called Ur-Rehman\u2019s driving \u201ca moment of madness\u201d and highlighted how, since the crash, he lost his career as a radiographer and \u201cwithdrew\u201d from society socially.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Due to pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity, Judge Cartwright reduced Ur-Rehman\u2019s sentence by a third.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was jailed for eight years and eight months for causing Abigail\u2019s death and was sentenced to three years for seriously injuring Ava, which will be served concurrently with the first sentence.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He was also disqualified from driving for five years, extended by a further four years and four months, and cannot get behind the wheel until he has passed an extended driving test.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ur-Rehman will serve half of his custodial sentence in prison and the other half on licence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Anayat Ur-Rehman pleaded guilty to causing the death of mum-of-two, Abigail Hudson, by dangerous driving on the A456&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":418968,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7820],"tags":[855,748,393,4884,16,15],"class_list":{"0":"post-418967","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-birmingham","8":"tag-birmingham","9":"tag-britain","10":"tag-england","11":"tag-great-britain","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115192466373316508","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/418967","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=418967"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/418967\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/418968"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=418967"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=418967"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=418967"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
