It means the world, and I hope I did you proud.

“It will be good to have a rest and then it will be back to GB Boxing and working with the coaches to improve and make sure that next time I go one further.”

As for Stott, the cruiserweight (85kg) delivered a commanding performance to stop Bulgaria’s Semion Boldirev in the second round. The Sheffield-based athlete used his jab to take control early, forcing a standing count in the opener before adding two more in the following round, leaving the referee with no choice but to halt the contest.

Stott commented: “I’m happy. Not satisfied, but happy with a medal. There’s only one colour we all come for. So keep pushing on now. The less work we have to do, the better. It means I can get as much rest as possible, ready to crack on tomorrow and do the job again. But I’m really happy with a stoppage, you don’t get paid for overtime at the end of the day!

He continued: “I had my first fight the other day, and they weren’t my best performance, but I had that, got myself back into the motion and now, as you’ve just seen there, got the stoppage. All the gears are fully working now. Car’s in top gear, absolutely flying.

“There was more of a crowd in there today so I was really happy with the turn out and having them push me on…maybe that’s the reason I got the stoppage!”

He will now face Ukraine’s Zhasan Danylo in tomorrow’s semi-final.

Elsewhere, Alice Pumphrey unluckily lost out at the quarter-final stage following a unanimous points decision loss to India’s Minakshi Minakshi.

England’s overall medal count at the Championships now stands at five, with four earned by GB Boxing squad members (Chantelle Reid, Odel Kamara, Callum Makin and Teagn Stott) and one by England Boxing Performance Pathway senior squad member, Emily Asquith who will be back in action tomorrow for her semi-final.

Secure your seat for the remaining days of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool.
