{"id":419627,"date":"2025-09-12T23:13:22","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T23:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/419627\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T23:13:22","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T23:13:22","slug":"new-500m-energy-from-waste-facility-opens-in-leeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/419627\/","title":{"rendered":"New \u00a3500m Energy-from-Waste facility opens in Leeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-586115 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Skelton-Image-1.jpg\" alt=\"Energy from waste \" width=\"860\" height=\"516\"  \/><br \/>\nenfinium has opened its new \u00a3500m Energy-from-Waste plant at its Skelton Grange facility in Leeds.<\/p>\n<p>Designed and built by global green technology company Kanadevia Inova, enfinium says the Skelton Grange facility will divert up to 410,000 tonnes of unrecyclable waste from landfill every year and generate up to 49MW of homegrown energy.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, enfinium says it diverted over 2.3 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from landfill.<\/p>\n<p>Skelton Grange will also be able to supply electricity to provide baseload power to nearby users without the need for grid connections.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-586114 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Skelton-Image-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"283\"  \/>enfinium says the Skelton Grange facility will divert up to 410,000 tonnes of unrecyclable waste from landfill every year.<\/p>\n<p>enfinium invested \u00a3500m in the development of the site in Leeds, which created over 400 jobs during its construction phase. Now operational, enfinium says the site will employ 40 people in full-time roles.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the launch, Mike Maudsley, CEO of enfinium, said: \u201cCommencing operations at our Skelton Grange facility is a major step forward in our strategy to deliver homegrown energy and decarbonisation powered by waste.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkelton Grange will play a key role in building a more circular economy by turning unrecyclable waste into homegrown electricity and heat to supply nearby businesses and homes across Leeds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>enfinium has also launched a new \u00a3100,000 Skelton Grange Philanthropic and Community Fund, which will provide support to community and environmental projects.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2025, it was announced\u00a0that the Aire Valley Heat and Power Network, a low-carbon heating and electricity scheme in Leeds, was awarded \u00a319.5 million in funding from the Government\u2019s Green Heat Network Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme will harness heat from enfinium\u2019s Skelton Grange facility to offer heating to local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Hilary Benn MP, Member of Parliament for Leeds South, commented: \u201cOnce the site of a coal-fired power station, this new energy recovery facility is a symbol of both the site\u2019s economic renewal and a new way of generating power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new Skelton Grange facility will take unrecyclable waste otherwise destined for landfill and use this instead to produce electricity and heat, as well as (recover) metals and other useful materials to support a circular economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u00a0 enfinium has opened its new \u00a3500m Energy-from-Waste plant at its Skelton Grange facility in Leeds.
