{"id":420306,"date":"2025-09-13T05:24:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420306\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T05:24:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:24:13","slug":"dalston-square-revamped-with-new-play-and-seating-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420306\/","title":{"rendered":"Dalston Square revamped with new play and seating spaces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Created in 2009, it has been revamped to make it more &#8220;sociable, accessible, and comfortable&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Hackney Council, alongside local architect muf, worked together on the project to improve the public space.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The square is now &#8216;more accessible'(Image: Sean Pollock)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The upgrades were funded through the government&#8217;s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and were a community effort with the input of schools, businesses, and resident groups.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A new exhibition space will be unveiled today (September 13).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It will celebrate the contributions of music venues such as the Four Aces Club, the 007 Sun Valley Club, the Hideaway, Cubies, Oasis, and Roseberry\u2019s.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The park was created in 2009(Image: Sean Pollock)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The square also includes a memorial garden, which is dedicated to the victims and survivors of the 1981 New Cross fire.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It was championed by Sir Charles Collins, a music producer whose son died in the fire.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The improvements align with the Dalston Plan, the council\u2019s vision for the next 15 years, based on feedback from more than 5,000 people.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The square has been revamped(Image: Sean Pollock)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Deputy mayor and cabinet member for housing management and regeneration, Councillor Guy Nicholson, said: &#8220;Dalston is a neighbourhood where culture, creativity, commerce, and community come together to make a unique town centre, and this is something the council continues to celebrate and prioritise.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;These projects place the town centre\u2019s identity front and centre, and give residents the spaces that reflect Dalston\u2019s pride in its past and optimism and ambition for its future.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  An event on Saturday will celebrate the site\u2019s musical heritage.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>A performance in the square(Image: Sean Pollock)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Co-designed with the Older Generation, Younger Generation organisation, a panel will be unveiled at the event, charting the history of the 19th-century Dalston Theatre up until its demolition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Musical history will be further celebrated with the unveiling of the first 10 of 150 engraved stones, as well as an award ceremony, honouring the contributions of those who defined Dalston\u2019s musical past.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The day will feature a performance by Black Slate, an act with strong links to several of the entertainment venues on the site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Created in 2009, it has been revamped to make it more &#8220;sociable, accessible, and comfortable&#8221;.
