{"id":420312,"date":"2025-09-13T05:27:15","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:27:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420312\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T05:27:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T05:27:15","slug":"open-house-festival-ten-east-london-buildings-worth-a-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420312\/","title":{"rendered":"Open House Festival: Ten east London buildings worth a visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Open House Festival &#8211;\u00a0running from September 13 to 21 &#8211;\u00a0returns to London this year, celebrating the city&#8217;s architecture, neighbourhood and communities.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It gives the public the chance to explore and learn about buildings they wouldn&#8217;t ordinarily have access to, including dozens across east London.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.romfordrecorder.co.uk\/news\/25272905.five-oldest-pubs-east-london-dating-back-centuries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Five of the oldest pubs in east London dating back centuries<\/strong><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  We have picked just 10 of these sites, all offering drop-in activities and tours across the week.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Ten east London buildings to visit as part of the Open House Festival<\/p>\n<p>  The Space Theatre, Isle of Dogs<\/p>\n<p>\n  A Grade II-listed converted church, which is now used as a theatre and arts centre dedicated to new writing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Activities include\u00a0two drop-in sessions on September 14 and September 18, and performances and screenings from September 13 to September 21.\n<\/p>\n<p>  English National Ballet, Canning Town<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Mulryan Centre for Dance is home to the English National Ballet.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Activities &#8211; all on September 20 &#8211;\u00a0include the chance to watch ballet dancers take their morning class, an XR dance performance, insight talks and building tours.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Trinity Buoy Wharf\/Container City, Canning Town<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Trinity Buoy Wharf is home to London&#8217;s only lighthouse(Image: Google Maps)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The former buoy manufacturing site is home to London&#8217;s only lighthouse and the world&#8217;s only surviving complete Victorian steamship.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Activities include guided tours, exhibitions and the chance to explore the lighthouse, across both weekends of the festival (September 13, 14, 21 and 22).\n<\/p>\n<p>  City Hall, Royal Docks<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The Crystal has been the Mayor of London&#8217;s HQ since 2022(Image: Google Maps)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The headquarters of the Mayor of London and London Assembly, located in the Royal Docks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Two tours and exhibitions of the building will be running on September 13 and 14.\n<\/p>\n<p>  The House Mill, Bromley-by-Bow<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>The House Mill is in Bromley-by-Bow(Image: Google Maps)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The world&#8217;s largest tidal mill, which was operational until 1940.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A taster tour will be available to join on September 21, lasting for around one to two hours.\n<\/p>\n<p>  London Aquatics Centre, Stratford<\/p>\n<p>\n  The London 2012 Olympic swimming pool at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with two 50m pools and the Team GB dive squad training area.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Guided tours of the venue&#8217;s main areas will be held on September 20 and 21.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Devil&#8217;s Botany Distillery, Leyton<\/p>\n<p>\n  The UK&#8217;s first absinthe distillery, with a copper pot still.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  An open day will be held on September 13, offering visitors the chance to meet the distillery&#8217;s founders, explore its history and try free samples.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Walthamstow Wetlands<\/p>\n<p>\n  A nature reserve spanning more than 200 hectares and featuring the\u00a0Grade II-listed Coppermill Tower.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Two guided walks on September 21 will allow visitors to explore the site&#8217;s industrial heritage and climb the steps of the tower.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Dagenham Parish Church<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Dagenham St Peter &amp;
