A road in Edinburgh<\/a> was closed off following two separate crashes involving an ambulance and a police car.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Lothian Road in the capital after the first incident took place outside Exchange Plaza at around 5pm on Friday. Photos from the scene, shared with Edinburgh Live<\/a>, show an ambulance stopped in the middle of the road after it collided with a traffic light.<\/p>\n

Police officers<\/a> were called to the scene, while other images show fire crews in attendance as well as another ambulance. A paramedic was taken to hospital “as a precaution”.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, a police car was involved in a crash nearby on Shandwick Place, at the junction with Princes Street.<\/p>\n

An image from the scene showed the mangled vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. Another car could be seen to be stopped in front of the police vehicle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Its front bumper appeared to be hanging from the car while its bonnet could be seen to be completely destroyed. No one was injured as a result.<\/p>\n

Bus and tram services<\/a> were, however, delayed as a result. Lothian buses alerted travellers of diversions in the Princes Street and West End area, affecting the 1, 10, 11, 15, 16, 43, 106, and X6.<\/p>\n

Edinburgh Trams also took to social media saying: “Due to an ongoing incident on Princes Street, we are part route between Airport to West End, and Picardy Place to Newhaven. We apologise for any disruption to your journey.”<\/p>\n

A witness said: “It was quite bad. The trams can\u2019t get through and there is a lot of traffic now.”<\/p>\n

Officers have confirmed the roads have since reopened. A Police Scotland<\/a> spokesperson said: “Lothian Road and Shandwick Place in Edinburgh have re-opened following two separate crashes. Around 5pm on Friday, 12 September, 2025, we received a report of a crash involving an ambulance on Lothian Road at the junction with West Approach Road.<\/p>\n

“One person was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. A short time later, on Shandwick Place there was a crash involving a marked police car and a car at the junction with Princes Street. There were no reports of any injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”<\/p>\n

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: \u201cAn incident involving one of our ambulances occurred on Lothian Road, Edinburgh, at 5pm whilst it was on its way to an emergency call.<\/p>\n
