{"id":420786,"date":"2025-09-13T09:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T09:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420786\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T09:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T09:52:13","slug":"edinburgh-neurodiversity-charitys-fundraising-heroes-drive-charity-support-forward-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/420786\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh neurodiversity charity\u2019s fundraising heroes drive charity support forward \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Co-founder Robin Dow\u2019s 25-mile challenge to celebrate 25 years of the neurodiversity charity paves the way for change<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Board members and Charity\u2019s CEO embark on challenges to drive donations further<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Mindroom-020825-7-1.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1684\" height=\"1123\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Mindroom-020825-7-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-212981\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Mindroom is celebrating a series of extraordinary fundraising activities, led by co-founder Robin Dow, who, at 81 and recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, has already raised a huge\u00a0\u00a370,000\u00a0following his 25-mile walk from Mindroom\u2019s Leith office to Tantallon Castle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Robin\u2019s epic walk is homage to the charity\u2019s 25-year journey since he co-founded it with author, journalist and wife, Sophie Dow, on 2 August 2000. \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/mindroom.raisely.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A Mile for Every Year<\/a>,\u2019 which was expected to raise \u00a350,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Reflecting on the experience, Robin Dow commented:\u00a0\u201cPeople are enormously generous, and we are incredibly grateful. The substantial amount we have already raised reflects countless small and large contributions coming together.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe fact that so many people have responded and actively engaged shows that we not only have wonderful families and friends, but also that, in Mindroom, we have a very worthwhile charity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Adrian Astley-Jones<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 specialist in private equity tech advisory and Non-Executive Director for Mindroom \u2013 will also soon join the fundraising efforts with his own epic swim, inspiring colleagues and supporters to rally behind the cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On the 14th and 15th of September, Adrian will step out of his comfort zone and embark on a big challenge with three close friends, when he attempts to swim across\u00a0<strong>the 3rd largest ocean whirlpool, The Gulf of Corryvreckan<\/strong>, located around 3 miles out from mainland Scotland\u2019s West Coast, and deemed \u2018unnavigable\u2019 by the Royal Navy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Commenting on the challenge ahead, Adrian adds:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>\u201cPassion and commitment are part of the work we do with the Mindroom\u2019s community. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe have one goal, and that is to offer as much direct support as we can and make a difference to real people. I will certainly do my very best to contribute as much as possible to this very important mission.
