Armed police were called to the scene of a shooting after a man was shot in the leg. The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment on his injuries.<\/p>\n

The incident happened on Windsor Road<\/a>, Tuebrook, at around 6.45pm. Police say it was reported that two men dressed in black with their faces covered left the area on a bike shortly after the shooting.<\/p>\n

Officers believe that the incident was targeted and remain at the scene this evening (April 22).<\/p>\n

Neighbours in the area said they heard ‘three or four bangs’ before police arrived at the scene. Speaking to the ECHO, a neighbour on the Albert Road side of the cordon said: \u201cWe heard the gunshots. We heard three or four bangs. When you hear a bang, it always goes through your head, but you think, no, surely it\u2019s just fireworks.\u201d<\/p>\n

“I never thought anything of it, but then I heard this car going up the road mad, and when I looked out, it was police.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t a big bang. It was loud enough for a bang, but different from a firework in that it was more contained, it wasn\u2019t as explosive.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the ECHO arrived at the scene<\/a>, at least nine police vehicles, including two Scientific Support vans, were there.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO<\/a>: “We are appealing for information after a man was shot in the leg in Tuebrook this evening, Tuesday 22 April.<\/p>\n

“At around 6.45pm, it was reported that a man aged in his 30s had been shot on Windsor Road and emergency services, including armed police, were called to the scene.<\/p>\n

“The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injury. It was further reported that two males, wearing all black clothing with their faces covered, left the area on a bike just after the firearm was discharged.<\/p>\n

“Although we are in the very initial stages of the investigation, it\u2019s believed that this incident was targeted and enquiries are ongoing to find the suspects. Officers remain at the scene to provide reassurance to the community and also carry out initial CCTV and witness enquiries.”<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Jay Halpin said: \u201cWe are in the very early stages of the investigation and we are determined to find the people responsible.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo open fire at someone in such a reckless manner could clearly have had much more serious if not fatal consequences. We believe that the suspects fled the area on a bike and enquiries are ongoing to locate them and find the weapon used in this incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also keen to speak to anyone who was in the general area who saw or heard anything suspicious or believes they captured something significant on their dashcam, CCTV or doorbell camera.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that guns cause misery on our streets and we would ask for the public\u2019s help in coming forward with any bit of information they have so we can find the people responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n
