Meghan Markle has revealed how attempting to dye her own hair during the pandemic left her with an “inky, Elvira-esque” appearance.<\/p>\n

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, shared the beauty mishap that occurred shortly after moving to California in 2020 on the latest episode of her “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast.<\/p>\n

During her conversation with hair colourist Kadi Lee on episode three of her podcast, Meghan admitted: “Because it was the pandemic, I kept ordering boxed hair dye. And I thought, ‘I’m gonna look just like she does on the box.'”<\/p>\n

The reality proved quite different, with Meghan describing the resulting colour as “this very inky, almost Elvira-esque black hair.”<\/p>\n

The duchess explained how she reached out to her wedding hairstylist, Serge Normant, for help with the hair disaster.<\/p>\n

Normant, who had styled Meghan’s hair for her 2018 royal wedding, immediately recommended Lee, who visited the duchess’s home.<\/p>\n

Meghan recalled: “We were masked and all the things. It was such an interesting time, but I remember that day so well.”<\/p>\n

The emergency hair appointment sparked a lasting friendship, with the duchess revealing her children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, now have a special bond with the hair expert.<\/p>\n

Meghan’s hair colourist has previously described her hair as ‘chocolate chestnut brunette’ when she travelled to Canada earlier this year<\/p>\n

Meghan shared: “Our kids love Auntie Kadi. It’s my favourite when they run out to your car. It’s like, ‘Kadi!'”<\/p>\n

During the podcast, the duchess also opened up about her earlier hair struggles as a biracial woman at university.<\/p>\n

The duchess shared: “When I was at Northwestern, and I moved into Kappa \u2014 our sorority there \u2014 I don’t even think they made plug-in flat irons at the time.”<\/p>\n

Meghan described using a stove-heated flat iron with a paper towel on the side, leading to concerned reactions from her fellow students.<\/p>\n

She recalled: “I remember most of the girls in the sorority who were not Black saying, ‘What’s that smell? Is hair burning?’<\/p>\n

“And it was just what you would do to figure out how to grapple with this texture of hair.”<\/p>\n
