\n Police officers were \u201cattacked with projectiles\u201d and \u201cassaulted\u201d during far-right anti-immigration protests in London on Saturday, the British capital\u2019s force said, as more than 110,000 people took to the city\u2019s streets.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Unite the Kingdom protest was organized by far-right political activist Tommy Robinson. Counter-protesters also flocked to the British capital.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Metropolitan Police Service said on social media on Saturday that the reported attacks happened after demonstrators at the Unite the Kingdom march breached a \u201csterile area\u201d put in place to keep protesters and counter-protesters apart.\n <\/p>\n
\n In a later social media post, the force said: \u201cOfficers are having to intervene in multiple locations to stop Unite the Kingdom protesters trying to access sterile areas, breach police cordons or get to opposing groups. A number of officers have been assaulted.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n The service said that 26 officers were injured in the clashes and 25 people were arrested.\n <\/p>\n
\n Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist condemned the \u201cwholly unacceptable\u201d attacks in a statement.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cOur post-event investigation has already begun – we are identifying those who were involved in the disorder and they can expect to face robust police action in the coming days and weeks,\u201d Twist said.\n <\/p>\n
\n London Mayor Sadiq Khan also said that \u201cviolence and attacking police officers is completely unacceptable.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Demonstrators brandishing flags of the United Kingdom and England \u2013 the Union Flag and the Cross of St. George respectively \u2013 marched to Whitehall, the London district where the prime minister and government departments reside.\n <\/p>\n
\n It comes after a summer of anti-immigration protests<\/a> across the country, some of which turned violent. British and English flags have also become commonplace<\/a> in cities and towns across the nation in tandem with the protests.\n <\/p>\n \n One video posted showed a protester holding a photograph of the American political activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed on Wednesday. The crowd can be heard chanting Kirk\u2019s name.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cBritain has finally awoken. We\u2019ve been waiting decades,\u201d Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, said in one video. \u201cPatriotism is the future, borders are the future, and we want our free speech,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n \n Robinson, the founder of the now-defunct anti-immigration English Defence League (EDL), was released from prison earlier this year, having been jailed for being in contempt of court by repeating false accusations about a Syrian refugee.\n <\/p>\n \n Commander Clair Haynes from the Metropolitan Police acknowledged ahead of Saturday\u2019s protest that many Muslim Londoners could have \u201cparticular concerns\u201d about the Unite the Kingdom march, \u201cgiven the record of anti-Muslim rhetoric and incidents of offensive chanting by a minority at previous marches.\u201d\n <\/p>\n ![\"Tommy](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/gettyimages-2235188784.jpg\")
