{"id":422172,"date":"2025-09-13T22:29:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-13T22:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/422172\/"},"modified":"2025-09-13T22:29:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T22:29:11","slug":"venezuela-condemns-us-destroyer-for-hostile-occupation-of-fishing-vessel-border-disputes-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/422172\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela condemns US destroyer for hostile occupation of fishing vessel | Border Disputes News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">US military action against a Venezuelan boat sparks condemnation and troop deployments.<\/p>\n<p>Published On 13 Sep 202513 Sep 2025<\/p>\n<p>Click here to share on social media<\/p>\n<p>share2<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-share__social-text\">Share<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"358\" data-end=\"554\">Venezuela has accused the United States of illegally boarding and occupying one of its fishing vessels in the country\u2019s special economic zone, further escalating tensions between Caracas and Washington.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"892\">In a statement on Saturday, Venezuela\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the vessel, carrying nine \u201chumble\u201d and \u201charmless\u201d fishermen, was intercepted by the US destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended Stories list of 3 itemsend of list<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe warship deployed 18 armed agents who boarded and occupied the small, harmless boat for eight hours,\u201d the statement said, calling the incident a \u201cdirect provocation through the illegal use of excessive military means\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1239\">The move follows a US military strike last week in the Caribbean that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/3\/trump-says-11-killed-in-strike-on-alleged-drug-carrying-boat-from-venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">killed 11 Venezuelans<\/a> and sank a boat that the administration of US President Donald Trump claimed, without evidence, had been transporting narcotics.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1239\">Venezuela has rejected these claims, with Minister of the Popular Power for Interior Diosdado Cabello insisting none of those killed was a member of the Tren de Aragua gang, as alleged by Washington.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1545\">\u201cThey openly confessed to killing 11 people,\u201d Cabello said on state television. \u201cOur investigations show the victims were not drug traffickers. A murder has been committed against a group of citizens using lethal force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1844\">The White House defended the strike, with spokeswoman Anna Kelly calling the victims \u201cevil Tren de Aragua <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/4\/is-venezuela-the-big-cocaine-menace-trump-claims-it-to-be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narcoterrorists<\/a>\u201d and saying that Nicolas Maduro is \u201cnot the legitimate president of Venezuela\u201d and is a \u201cfugitive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1844\">Several countries <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/5\/26\/venezuela-election-results-who-lost-won-and-what-next\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deny Maduro\u2019s legitimacy<\/a> as a democratically elected leader due to what some have viewed as unfair elections, but the Trump administration has not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/4\/is-venezuela-the-big-cocaine-menace-trump-claims-it-to-be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provided evidence<\/a> linking the Venezuelan president to Tren de Aragua. US intelligence agencies have said there is no sign of coordination between the government and traffickers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1547\" data-end=\"1844\">Pentagon officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2202\">Venezuelan President Maduro announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2025\/9\/1\/maduro-says-us-naval-forces-aimed-at-regime-change-in-venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployment of troops<\/a>, police and civilian militias across 284 \u201cbattlefront\u201d locations, reinforcing previous troop increases along the Colombian border.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"2202\">Speaking from Ciudad Caribia, Maduro signalled Venezuela\u2019s readiness to defend its water, saying: \u201cWe\u2019re ready for an armed fight, if it\u2019s necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2570\">The US has also expanded its military presence in the southern Caribbean, sending warships and deploying 10 F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2570\">Last month, Washington doubled its reward for information leading to Maduro\u2019s arrest to $50m, citing alleged drug trafficking and criminal ties, a claim Venezuela denies, asserting it is not a drug-producing country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"US military action against a Venezuelan boat sparks condemnation and troop deployments.
