That&#8217;s because it is. While most people do not retire until they reach state pension age\u2014set to rise to 67 next year\u2014there are still many benefits that can be accessed once they turn 60.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In the UK, those aged 60 and over can enjoy perks such as free bus travel, free prescriptions, and discounted food, among various other offers. These discounts and freebies can significantly impact individuals&#8217; finances, potentially saving them hundreds of pounds, especially if they frequently travel or go out for leisure activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Below is a list of some of the offers that people over the age of 60 may be eligible to claim.<\/p>\n<p>Free bus travel<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/free-bus-pass-update-uk-32445063\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"free bus pass scheme has slightly different rulesLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">free bus pass scheme has slightly different rules<\/a> for each local authority area of the UK and can vary from council to council as well as between constituent nations of the UK. If you have a Disabled Person\u2019s Bus Pass, you can still travel within the same time restrictions, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/free-bus-pass-major-blow-32456166\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"despite recent debates in parliament.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">despite recent debates in parliament.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Coach discounts<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Individuals over 60 in England and Wales can enjoy discounted bus fares by obtaining a Senior Coachcard from National Express, which offers one-third off regular prices. The card costs \u00a315, plus an additional \u00a33 for postage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In addition to the fare discount, the Senior Coachcard provides access to extra offers, such as \u00a315 return tickets available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays when booked three or more days in advance. Cardholders can also receive a 15 percent discount on the price of an adult Fully Flexible fare.<\/p>\n<p>Train discounts<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">People over the age of 60 are eligible for a Senior Railcard, which provides discounts on a variety of ticket types, including many First Class, Standard, Advance, and off-peak bookings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The cost of a Senior Railcard is \u00a330 for one year or \u00a370 for three years. For instance, Dobbies Garden Centres provides a main meal and a cake for just \u00a311.95 for customers over 60. For instance, ODEON&#8217;s Silver Screen tickets are priced at just \u00a33.50 and come with complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits before the film. It&#8217;s a good idea to check directly with the theaters or cinemas for these discounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Additionally, the National Theatre provides a \u00a320 discount on midweek matinees for seniors over 60, while the Royal Shakespeare Company offers a 20% discount on all seats for patrons over 65 for Monday and Tuesday evening performances, as well as all midweek matinees.<\/p>\n<p>Prescriptions and healthcare discounts<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In Scotland and Wales, prescriptions are free for everyone, while in England, they are free only for individuals who are 60 years old and above.
