Kerala’s anti corruption crusader Dr Raju Narayana Swamy said that the biggest threat to cyber security comes from quantum computing. Speaking at IIT, Goa he was analysing the threat to cyber security in the light of Shor\u2019s Algorithm \u2013 an algorithm devised by Peter Shor in the 1990s. Confidentiality, integrity and availability are the corner stones of cyber security.<\/p>\n

Swamy also outlined the pros and cons of cyber security in the age of artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data. The threats arising from data diddling, salami slicing and denial of service attacks were gone into with updated examples from the field. It was highlighted that even the latest technologies like cloud computing need a high level of security and that latest trends like webservers and APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) have a high impact on cyber security.<\/p>\n

Real life examples as to how social networking sites have become platforms for hacking private information enthralled the audience. Technologies in the security arena- from authentication of data to access control- were gone into indepth. The lecture concluded with Swamy\u2019s observation that cyber security is not just about technology, but also about a body of processes, structures and practices used to attain the golden goal of protecting networks, programs and data from damage, nay unauthorized access.<\/p>\n
