Amid a sea of flag-waving and soccer-style chanting from large crowds that exceeded expectations, violent clashes with police led to dozens of arrests.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-93bb31\" class=\"body-graf\">It came amid a surge of nationalism in the U.K., with a far-right party topping the polls, and the murder of American conservative activist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/charlie-kirks-widow-vows-husbands-mission-will-continue-rcna230951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlie Kirk<\/a> \u2014 an assassination Robinson used to mobilize support in the run-up to the event.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/20250913-london-rally-jj-703a-89f1af.jpg\" alt=\"Image: &quot;Unite The Kingdom&quot; Rally And Counter Rally By Stand Up To Racism Takes Place In Central London\" height=\"3459\" width=\"5199\"\/>Crowds gathering in London on Saturday ahead of the far-right \u201cUnite the Kingdom\u201d rally.Ben Montgomery \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-453854\" class=\"body-graf\">Robinson \u2014 whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon \u2014 has long inspired rallies of mostly white, mostly male followers campaigning against Islam and immigration.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-86120d\" class=\"body-graf\">He billed Saturday&#8217;s event as Britain\u2019s \u201clargest free speech festival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a7b287\" class=\"body-graf\">In a video link to the rally, billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/elon-musk\/t-63587027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Musk<\/a> called for a change of government in Britain and railed against the &#8220;woke mind virus&#8221; and &#8220;uncontrolled immigration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-e2ad8f\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cMy appeal is to British common sense, which is to look carefully around you and say: \u2018If this continues, what world will you be living in?\u2019&#8221; said Musk, who has previously spoken out in support of Robinson and other far-right causes across the world. \u201cWhether you choose violence or not, violence is coming to you. You either fight back or you die, that\u2019s the truth, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f11369\" class=\"body-graf\">Musk labelled the U.K. a &#8220;tyrannical police state&#8221; in 2024, saying the country was on the verge of \u201ccivil war\u201d following days of right-wing riots after three young girls were killed in a knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/250913-london-rally-ch-1138-c1fecf.jpg\" alt=\"Protesters at the &quot;Unite The Kingdom&quot; rally.\" height=\"2500\" width=\"2000\"\/>Supporters of Tommy Robinson wave flags on Saturday.Carlos Jasso \/ AFP &#8211; Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a69974\" class=\"body-graf\">Saturday&#8217;s demonstration saw &#8220;disorder, violence directed at officers and 26 officers injured,&#8221; London&#8217;s police force said, adding that it had made 25 arrests. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-1596ef\" class=\"body-graf\">Police were &#8220;assaulted with kicks and punches,&#8221; and Unite the Kingdom demonstrators threw &#8220;bottles, flares and other projectiles&#8221; as they tried to enter a \u201csterile area\u201d created to separate them from a smaller counterprotest organized by Stand Up to Racism.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cd2468\" class=\"body-graf\">Footage posted by the force showed police with riot shields pushing back a crowd of protesters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/250913-london-rally-ch-1140-782e2e.jpg\" alt=\"Kate Hopinks and Tommy Robinson.\" height=\"1667\" width=\"2500\"\/>Katie Hopinks and Tommy Robinson attend the &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; rally on Saturday in London.Ben Montgomery \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4740f8\" class=\"body-graf\">Robinson had told attendees not to wear masks, drink alcohol or be violent.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f903c2\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cIt\u2019s not a time for riots,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TRobinsonNewEra\/status\/1966542313888547005\" target=\"_blank\">video on X<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s not a time for violence. It\u2019s a time where you come and you stand proudly for your country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-7490f3\" class=\"body-graf\">The Metropolitan Police told NBC News they estimated there were 110,000 to 150,000 people in attendance at the Unite the Kingdom protest, &#8220;significantly exceeding the estimates of organizers,&#8221; and 5,000 at the counterdemonstration.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-07724d\" class=\"body-graf\">British police had urged Muslim Londoners not to alter their plans, despite a record of \u201canti-Muslim rhetoric and incidents of offensive chanting by a minority at previous marches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/250913-london-rally-ch-1137-032e77.jpg\" alt=\"Protesters clash with police at the &quot;Unite The Kingdom&quot; rally.\" height=\"1668\" width=\"2500\"\/>Protesters clash with police officers in London on Saturday.Christopher Furlong \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-3f0e3e\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThere have been some suggestions that Muslim Londoners should change their behavior this Saturday, including not coming into town,\u201d said Metropolitan Police Cmdr. Clair Haynes, who is in charge of the public order policing operation in London. \u201cThat is not our advice.
