A new revelation about Queen Elizabeth<\/a> has been revealed by a former royal staff member. In his new memoir, The Royal Insider<\/a>
\n, former royal butler and footman Paul Burrell made the claim that Queen Elizabeth was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer shortly before her death. <\/p>\n

Burrell wrote that Queen Elizabeth was diagnosed \u201cjust a few months\u201d after Prince Philip\u2019s passing in 2021. The queen kept the diagnosis secret, and didn\u2019t allow the news to leave her \u201ccircle of trust.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as the family was concerned, everything was fine, but the doctors\u2019 prognosis gave her only until Christmas,\u201d Burrell wrote. \u201cThe Queen\u2019s response was, \u2018Well, that\u2019s a shame, because next year is my\u00a0Platinum Jubilee year\u00a0and I\u2019d quite like to have seen that. Can you keep me alive for that?’\u201d<\/p>\n

For her treatment, Queen Elizabeth \u201cendured blood transfusions and scrupulously followed doctors\u2019 orders, giving up her much-loved gin and tonics, gin and Dubonnets and martini.\u201d As a healthy substitution, she drank \u201capple juice (and tomato juice on a Sunday as a treat) to help extend her life.\u201d <\/p>\n

Burrell noted that her doctors \u201ckept her alive to witness this landmark in her reign,\u201d but deep inside, the monarch \u201cknew through it all that she was dying.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Queen had only told members of the royal family for \u201cthe final few months,\u201d she was alive. \u201cShe had intentionally kept them out of the loop as she didn\u2019t want them to worry,\u201d the footman wrote.<\/p>\n

However, one worry did peak in her mind during her final days. \u201cShe was also concerned that her illness might open the door to a regency,\u201d Burrell claims. \u201cThis was abhorrent to her. She wanted to rule to the end and definitely did not want to be a sick Queen with a regent ruling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Queen Elizabeth died on<\/a> September 8, 2022. Two years after her death, her son King Charles and her granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton announced their cancer diagnoses. The Princess of Wales announced her remission<\/a> in January 2025, while Charles is still undergoing treatment. <\/p>\n

Royal insider Camilla Tominey previously reported that King Charles\u2019 cancer\u00a0is incurable<\/a>\u00a0after he allegedly refused treatment. \u201cThe talk now is that he may die \u2018with\u2019 cancer, but not \u2018of\u2019 cancer following a rigorous treatment program,\u201d she revealed in\u00a0The Telegraph<\/a>.
