POOLE-born Scott Currie has been called up to the England squad for the upcoming IT20s against Ireland.<\/p>\n
It is Currie\u2019s first call up to the England squad after Saqib Mahmood was ruled out with a knee injury.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old had represented Scotland in three ODIs in the World Cricket League Division 2 in Dubai 18 months ago.<\/p>\n
But Scotland\u2019s failure to qualify for the upcoming T20 World Cup and this subsequent call up for England suggest Currie\u2019s ambitions to play for Scotland, the country of his father\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n
Currie spoke to ESPNcricinfo on Friday and said: \u201cThere’s plenty of experience to be had out there.<\/p>\n
“I’ve obviously got [the possibility] that you can flip between the two, and if an England cap ever came then that would be a massive honour.<\/p>\n
“But certainly, the pride of representing Scotland in those three games that I did, taking the field with my brother [Brad], knowing what it means to my old man and his side of the family, is something that always puts a smile on my face.<\/p>\n
“Everyone’s favourite word at the moment is the schedule, but it’s tough with the way the schedule is to find those opportunities. Unfortunately, they didn’t qualify for the T20 World Cup coming this winter. But yeah, I do remain in contact with them.”<\/p>\n
