This month Mr Trump declared that his country\u2019s deficit with the European Union would \u201cdisappear easily and quickly\u201d if the bloc did only that. He and his cabinet have pressed other allies, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.economist.com\/asia\/2025\/04\/21\/jd-vance-flies-into-a-giant-trade-storm-in-india\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">India<\/a> and the Philippines, to increase their purchases of American liquefied natural gas (LNG).
