A total of \u00a353,400 is being made available for young musicians across Scotland from the Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust.<\/p>\n
It is the largest amount of funding the charity has ever issued in a single round, with the grants potentially benefitting more than 2,000 young musicians.<\/p>\n
Eilidh, from the Isle of Barra, was just 14 when she was killed in the 2017 bombing.<\/p>\n
The trust was set up in her name as a music education charity which aims to reflect her passion for music.<\/p>\n
She played\u00a0the\u00a0bagpipes\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0local pipe band, travelling\u00a0the\u00a0country and taking part\u00a0in\u00a0competitions.<\/p>\n
Eilidh was also\u00a0a\u00a0member\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0National Youth Pipe Band\u00a0of\u00a0Scotland, which operates under\u00a0the\u00a0umbrella\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0National Piping Centre.<\/p>\n
Iagan MacNeil, of\u00a0Eilidh\u2019s Trust, said: \u201cThis funding round shows that we are succeeding in our mission to build a musical legacy for\u00a0Eilidh,\u00a0having now issued almost 200 small grants since 2018.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are heartened to know that our 2025 funding will allow over 2,000 children and young people to grow in their talent and confidence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile our financial support this year covers a broad range of genres and disciplines in all parts of Scotland, we have seen an increase in requests to help alleviate the costs associated with music lessons.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy removing financial barriers to tuition, we are helping young people to continue to realise their ambitions without fear of impacting under-pressure family budgets.\u201d<\/p>\n
