Detectives have arrested a man after a Sikh<\/a> woman reported being raped in broad daylight in Oldbury while on her way to work.<\/p>\n The woman, aged in her 20s, told police she was dragged and then attacked on parkland off Tame Road shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday, September 9.<\/p>\n One of her attackers told her to ‘go back to your own country’ or words to that effect following the horrifying sex attack, the Sikh Federation (UK) said.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> Sikh leaders tell police ‘you have 48 hours’ after racially-aggravated Oldbury rape<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Officers have spent the last six days desperately searching for ‘two white men’ who were suspected of being involved in the ‘racially-aggravated’ attack.<\/p>\n West Midlands Police<\/a> last night confirmed officers had arrested a man, aged in his 30s, on suspicion of rape.<\/p>\n It comes after Sikh leaders yesterday urged detectives to step up their efforts to find those responsible<\/a>.<\/p>\n A force spokesperson said last night: “Officers investigating a racially-motivated rape in Oldbury have this evening arrested a man.<\/p>\n “The man, in his 30s, was detained as part of enquiries into the assault in the Tame Road area on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n “He remains in custody tonight on suspicion of rape.<\/p>\n “The woman is continuing to receive support as investigations continue.”<\/p>\n Ch Supt Kim Madill, of Sandwell<\/a> Police, added: “This is a significant development in the investigation and we want to thank the community for their continuing support.<\/p>\n “The investigation remains on-going and we would urge people not to speculate as we work to identify and trace all those who may have been involved.”<\/p>\n Breaking news straight to your WhatsApp<\/p>\n BirminghamLive readers get the very latest breaking news through our WhatsApp community<\/a>.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click this link<\/a> and select ‘Join Chat’ and you are in.<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
