{"id":426056,"date":"2025-09-15T10:45:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T10:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/426056\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T10:45:13","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T10:45:13","slug":"regal-wins-approval-for-1300-bed-student-housing-scheme-in-londons-docklands-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/426056\/","title":{"rendered":"Regal wins approval for 1,300-bed student housing scheme in London\u2019s Docklands | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"picture\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Howells Orchard Wharf 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/2012906_howellsorchardwharf1_98528.jpg\"  loading=\"eager\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1000\" height=\"675\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"122\" data-end=\"219\">Regal has ssecured planning approval from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for a large mixed-use scheme on a vacant site opposite the O2 Arena.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"122\" data-end=\"219\">The scheme, designed by architect is set to deliver 208 homes for affordable tenures, 1,365 purpose-built student rooms and a revitalised working wharf on a 2.3ha site that has been vacant for more than two decades.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"122\" data-end=\"219\">Steve Harrington, planning director at Regal, said: \u201cThis is an important step towards delivering new affordable homes and high quality student accommodation in Tower Hamlets while ensuring the long-term future of the wharf as a sustainable logistics hub.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>William Poole, partner at Howells, said: \u201c\u201cIt has enabled the delivery of more than 1,500 homes in this riverside location, prioritising high-quality affordable housing on the prime part of the site \u2013 along with rooftop residents\u2019 gardens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"122\" data-end=\"219\">The approved project also includes 7,524 sq m of logistics floorspace for Thames Clippers Logistics, which plans to operate the safeguarded wharf as a low carbon river freight hub. According to Regal, this is intended to reduce pressure on London\u2019s road network and support the re-use of the Thames as a transport corridor.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1297\">The development will provide more than 7,400 sq m of open space, including landscaped gardens, children\u2019s play areas and community facilities.
