Anis Mehmeti\u2019s individual performance in Bristol City\u2019s win over Sheffield Wednesday was \u201cnot a surprise,\u201d Gerhard Struber has admitted, with the Reds boss quick to emphasise the need for game-to-game consistency.<\/p>\n

The Robins stretched their unbeaten start to the Championship campaign to five matches with a 3-0 win at Hillsborough<\/a> on Saturday afternoon. First-half strikes from Emil Riis and Mehmeti, after an early Harry Amass own-goal, helped City secure a third league win of the season and climb up to third in the table.<\/p>\n

Mehmeti played an important role in all three of the Reds’ goals against the Owls. It was the 24-year-old who picked out Rob Dickie<\/a> with a smart pass in the lead-up to the opener; he provided the assist for Riis’ third of the term 12 minutes later, before he slotted under Ethan Hovarth in the Wednesday net himself to wrap up the three points on the half-hour mark.<\/p>\n

In truth, the Albanian should have left Hillsborough with more than one goal to his name as he stung both the side-netting and woodwork in the remainder of the contest. Although the winger’s display impressed supporters and his head coach alike, Struber was by no means taken aback.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great, but also not a surprise,\u201d the Robins boss explained in his post-match press conference on Saturday. \u201cHe should do it again and again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he has a really good quality, and he has so many things that can help us in combination power, one-on-one dribbling power, also, of course, he is in front of the goal sexy. But also the connection with Twiney, with Emil, how the boys did it, also on the ball on the far side with our wing-backs, in more directions, I am super happy.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever forget, we have in the end two sixes with [Adam] Randell and with our capitano [Jason Knight] and then [Max] Birdy; we have players on the field that have a really good power and interpret the identity in a good way at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite finishing last season as the Robins\u2019 top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions, Mehmeti remained a slightly divisive figure amongst supporters for much of the campaign. While at his best, the Albanian international could single-handedly pull teams apart, he was equally capable of frustrating<\/a> both in and out of possession.<\/p>\n

So far this term, however, the 24-year-old has consistently been one of the Reds\u2019 most effective players, as demonstrated by the fact that he already has three goals and two assists to his name in just five Championship appearances.<\/p>\n

Two of those goals have come away from Ashton Gate. City have already won twice on the road this term, something they only managed on four occasions<\/a> the whole of last season, and have scored eight goals in the process – only 15 short of the tally they registered when they secured their play-off place last time out.<\/p>\n

With it still incredibly early in the season, Struber is eager to see both Mehmeti and the rest of his squad maintain their form over the coming weeks and months by playing without a sense of “fear” on their travels.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I took over the team, of course, I saw many matches, and I saw many good performances from Anis,\u201d the head coach told Bristol Live<\/a>. \u201cIn the end, it\u2019s always important – not only for Anis but the whole team – that we have more consistency in our performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told the boys, I think of course we want to win at home, but we want to win away, and this should not be a big difference. We have to do everything from our mindset that we have in the end, not a big fear or too much respect when we play away.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think also the boys realise that and in games like that, when we have the right mindset, then our attackers – like Anis today – they did a great job. We should do it with the right consistency, and then I think it\u2019s super difficult against our strikers or our offensive players.\u201d<\/p>\n
