{"id":426203,"date":"2025-09-15T12:03:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-15T12:03:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/426203\/"},"modified":"2025-09-15T12:03:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-15T12:03:17","slug":"edinburgh-young-swimmers-invited-to-make-a-splash-with-competition-the-nen-north-edinburgh-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/426203\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh young swimmers invited to make a splash with competition \u2013 The NEN \u2013 North Edinburgh News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Olympic and paralympic heroes judge design to cap ten years of swimming success<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nen.press\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/learn-to-swim.jpg?ssl=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/learn-to-swim.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-213080\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>YOUNG swimmers in Edinburgh are being handed the unique chance to see their creativity celebrated by sporting royalty for Learn to Swim Month.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A new competition has been launched for children design a commemorative swim cap marking a decade of the trailblazing Learn to Swim programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The winning design will be announced live by Learn to Swim Ambassadors, Olympic medallist Duncan Scott and Paralympic champion Toni Shaw, during the official 10th Anniversary Celebration Event later this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Delivered in partnership by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/74n5c4m7.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me\/L0\/http:%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F2A0MR1A\/1\/0102019928a34ee6-47716195-f981-46bf-a583-e027ca9c2101-000000\/Loa4RffCPJPmHVmDGEFVscCGwh8=442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scottish Water<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/74n5c4m7.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me\/L0\/http:%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F2DGK8Ph\/1\/0102019928a34ee6-47716195-f981-46bf-a583-e027ca9c2101-000000\/VWgHB6R8r1Yd4MGh8t6WNgJzxrg=442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Scottish Swimming,<\/a>\u00a0the Learn to Swim Framework has grown into one of Scotland\u2019s most successful programmes \u2013 supporting more than 210,000 children and adults learn to swim and help them to become safer, more confident and competent in water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Duncan Scott, the most decorated Scottish Olympian of all time, said: \u201cThe success of the Learn to Swim programme over the past decade has been phenomenal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019ve reached hundreds of thousands of young people and are continuing to grow year after year. What I really love is just how inclusive it is, welcoming children of all ages, all backgrounds and abilities, and giving them the chance to thrive in and around the water.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThis competition is a brilliant way to celebrate everything that\u2019s been achieved and gives one lucky youngster the chance to create a special memory and have their very own unique swimming cap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>The competition runs throughout Learn to Swim Month this September, with entries welcomed via a dedicated form hosted online from those currently enrolled in the Learn to Swim programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A judging panel including representatives from Scottish Swimming and Scottish Water will select the winner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The design brief asks children to show what swimming means to them \u2013 whether that\u2019s fun, freedom, learning or adventure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Paralympic medallist Toni Shaw, who has been a passionate ambassador for the initiative since 2021, added: \u201cThis is such a fun way to celebrate the past 10 years and really mark the occasion in style.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cTo now see so many opportunities opening up for young people, especially those facing unique challenges, is special for me personally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThis competition is a great way to shine a light on everything that\u2019s been achieved \u2013 and I can\u2019t wait to see the creative designs the children come up with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The young designer behind the chosen cap will receive a one-of-a-kind cap featuring their artwork, a goodie bag and the chance to see their cap design produced in limited numbers for use by learners at their own Learn to Swim provider.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Learn to Swim programme is now delivered by 38 leisure trusts and aquatic providers in 167 pools across the country.
