The first phase of a massive redevelopment project in north Manchester has reached a new milestone \u2013 with families soon to be moved in.<\/p>\n

The first new council homes in Collyhurst Village are being made ready for local people. The project would see 274 new homes built in total, including 130 council-owned homes for social rent.<\/p>\n

These first completions consist of 10 houses for social rent\u202f\u2013 including a specially adapted property for a household with mobility needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

How long until Collyhurst Village is built?<\/p>\n

\"CollyhurstHere\u2019s how some of the houses in Collyhurst are looking <\/p>\n

These homes sit alongside another 14 properties up for sale. The tenants taking up the first council homes are existing Collyhurst residents and will begin moving into their new homes later this month, while some got their keys over the summer.<\/p>\n

This current phase of building presents the first of a long-term plan for investment and redevelopment in the north Manchester neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

The Victoria North regeneration programme<\/p>\n

The Victoria North regeneration programme<\/a> will see up to 15,000 new homes built between Victoria Train Station and Queen\u2019s Park in Collyhurst over the next 15 years in seven new and existing neighbourhoods. Each neighbourhood will be linked by high-quality green spaces that will open up and celebrate the River Irk.\u00a0<\/p>\n

How many homes have been built already?<\/p>\n

Already 430 homes have been completed across Victoria North, as well as 550 currently on site and a further 4,801 with planning approval. This first phase of development in Collyhurst is an important step in delivering this vision.\u202f<\/p>\n

Construction works continue to complete the remainder of the homes in both Collyhurst South and Collyhurst Village alongside a new community park.<\/p>\n

Looking to future phases, the council will continue the ongoing conversations and consultation with the local community to help guide the long-term masterplan for the neighbourhood that will underpin the approach to development over the next decade.<\/p>\n

A new metrolink coming to Sandhills <\/p>\n

This will include building more affordable, sustainable homes and creating different types of housing to support residents at different stages in their life; alongside a proposed new Metrolink stop at Sandhills; quality green spaces; improved walking and cycling routes; and better connections to other local neighbourhoods.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Councillor Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council<\/a>, said: \u201cThe council is serious about delivering investment into North Manchester. This is a landmark moment for Collyhurst, for the Victoria North programme and North Manchester as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese new homes for local residents mark real and visible change \u2013 through which we deliver new good quality housing and improved amenities, including a Metrolink station, shops and local services.\u202f<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the meantime, we are cracking on with the rest of the homes in this first phase of investment in Collyhurst that will see 274 homes built in total \u2013 including 130 homes for social rent \u2013 and a new community park.<\/p>\n
