A dodgy double glazing boss set up a new firm despite being banned from doing so – before fleeing with his wife to Florida.<\/p>\n

Stockport Council’s<\/a> Trading Standards Team started investigating The Cheshire Window Outlet Limited after complaints that they had paid deposits for windows and doors that were never supplied or fitted.<\/p>\n

The investigation revealed the firm had been set up by Steven Wright, who was already subject to two director disqualification orders for two separate offences \u2013 one in 2014 banning him for eight years, and another in 2018 banning him for a further four years.<\/p>\n

The Cheshire Window Outlet was set up just months after the second ban, with Wright using his wife Louise and friend Mark Tibbot as directors, Stockport<\/a> Council said.<\/p>\n

The trading standards team lodged criminal charges against the trio, and the company, in 2022, with a trial set for early 2024.<\/p>\n

However, the Wrights sold their home in Bramhall<\/a> in 2023 and fled to Florida.<\/p>\n

The court issued warrants for their arrests and a trial was held in their absence.<\/p>\n

A Stockport <\/a>Council spokesperson said: “On 11 September, Steven Wright was unanimously convicted of fraud by false representation and breaching both disqualification orders.<\/p>\n

“Louise Wright was found guilty of two counts of acting in contravention of a disqualification order by assisting her husband. The company itself was also convicted of two counts of breaching a disqualification order.<\/p>\n

“Tibbot, who initially absconded, was arrested in 2023 after Greater Manchester Police<\/a> issued a wanted appeal. He later pleaded guilty to assisting in the breaches and, in early 2024, received a 12-week suspended prison sentence.”<\/p>\n

Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection at Stockport Council<\/a>, said: “This successful prosecution demonstrates the council\u2019s absolute commitment to protecting our residents and holding dishonest businesses to account.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteven and Louise Wright acted with complete disregard for the law, deceiving customers and undermining trust in legitimate local traders. Thanks to the persistence of our Trading Standards team, we secured justice for those affected.<\/p>\n
