{"id":428113,"date":"2025-09-16T05:38:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T05:38:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/428113\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T05:38:30","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T05:38:30","slug":"first-image-released-of-michael-sheen-as-owain-glyndwr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/428113\/","title":{"rendered":"First image released of Michael Sheen as Owain Glynd\u0175r"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The first image of Michael Sheen as Owain Glynd\u0175r has been released to mark the annual day honouring the last Welsh-born Prince of Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">It comes two months before Owain &amp; Henry, a new play exploring Glynd\u0175r&#8217;s 15th Century rebellion against English rule, in one of the first productions announced by Welsh National Theatre, Sheen&#8217;s own company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\"><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/wales\/history\/sites\/themes\/figures\/owain_glyndwr.shtml\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">Glynd\u0175r<\/a>, a symbol of Welsh nationalism, is remembered in statues, monuments and place names across Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Sheen, who has previously said the Royal Family should give up the Prince of Wales title, said he would portray Glynd\u0175r as &#8220;the iconic Welsh prince&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Sheen, who as an actor is best known for transforming into characters including Prince Andrew, David Frost and Tony Blair, previously said he was <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c5yr8y5exgpo\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 jZoZnB\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;incredibly excited&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">&#8220;It&#8217;s the play that tells the exact story that I want this national theatre company to be able to tell, on the second biggest stage in Europe,&#8221; he added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Born in Port Talbot, Sheen explained how Owain &amp; Henry was &#8220;one of the origin stories of our nation, as relevant in today&#8217;s complex world as it was when Glynd\u0175r declared Wales an independent nation 600 years ago&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">An audio release was also posted on social media which shows Sheen speaking as Glynd\u0175r for the first time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The play by Welsh playwright Gary Owen is believed to be the first time the story of Glynd\u0175r has been tackled by a dramatist for a large-scale production, with the prince as the main character.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">It will be performed at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff in November 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The first image of Michael Sheen as Owain Glynd\u0175r has been released to mark the annual day honouring&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":428114,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5010],"tags":[748,4884,16,15,1764],"class_list":{"0":"post-428113","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wales","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-great-britain","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-wales"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/115212366861832051","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/428113","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=428113"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/428113\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/428114"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=428113"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=428113"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=428113"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
